Title: V60 key chatter
Post by: jcoffin1981 on Thu, 24 December 2015, 20:29:48
I'm sure most of you   recall  a thread from a few days ago where I  nearly destroyed my board replacing some switches.  The main purpose of this was space bar chatter or debounce and this  is probably the most  problematic key for  this to occur on.  At  the time the manufacturer gave  me the  option of  returning  the board or giving  me a handful of  switches and fixing it myself.  There were  no other replacements being made at that time so those were my options.

The problem is  occuring with about the same occurence as before.  I've read about chatter and  de-bounce and  from what  I understand the problem is individual variances in the keyswitches  themselves and replacing the keyswitch should solve the problem.  I have another keyboard perhaps I can perhaps install  and  test the switch  and then re-install  it in this  keyboard.   Or  I  can just  put this  in a  closet and use the new  one as my daily driver.   I'm  curious to hear others  responses, remarks, opinions, etc.,  because most of  you are smarter than me when it comes to this.   I  am just extremely, extremely annoyed.   Also by doing this,  I have voided my manufacturer's warranty obviously.

If curious if anyone  else  with  Gateron switches  report  any  key chatter,  especially in  the spacebar?????

I remember reading your other thread. I recently got my varmilo tkl board with Gateron Reds and its chattering like crazy many different keys, its odd cause none of my cherry boards ever did this...

If  you   take a  program   like  Switch  Hitter and  search for debounce, if you   hit a suspected  key on  the  very edge and  then hit it on the opposite edge  it  will  cause  chatter.   Maybe as  with a  spacebar    none of the  keypresses are   dead  center t his contributes?    There are stabilizers  however which in theory  keep the   spacebar level.  The  only think  I   can  th ink  of i s  to test a switch  before installing it.   You can see   how  I  am   typing,   this is crazy.   There  are dozens  of extra spaces.

It sucks you have to go through all that trouble :/ However, I already contacted MassDrop about it. They said I can get a full refund, just have to go through the RMA proces :) Funny thing is I'm about to buy my first 60% a v60 LOL. However, with cherry mx reds :) Don't trust Gaterons or any other "rebrand"...

I remember seeing a post on KBP's Facebook page advising customers experiencing keychatter on their V60 to download new firmware.

Might be worth looking up KBP on Facebook and see what you can find.

I did update the firmware, but they later told me that that partcular firmware was meant for previous revisions of the keyboard and had no effect on this one.  Anyway there was no perceivable change.
