Title: Printing vs company
Post by: Maionnayse on Fri, 25 December 2015, 05:30:01
Decided to join after realizing I've been reading a ton of threads here on the forums  :) been searching everywhere for a keyset that isn't sold out or blank, and finally narrowed it down to two sets- a set with dye-sub PBT keys made by ducky, (the set i like more aesthetically) and a set with double-shot PBT keys made by Vortex, (Still like this set, just not as much as the other). You would think i would just go with the one i like more, but then i started reading about each brand's PBT thickness, and the durability of dye sub printing, and now i'm in a hole. So what matters more, the printing method used, or the company that made them? I know ducky and vortex are both good brands but would one be substantially better than the other? Would double-shot keys be substantially better than the dye sub as well? Is the difference so minimal that i could just choose the one i like more?

Technically, double shot will last longer since the legend "thickness" is greater.  But in all honesty, it's very unlikely that you will wear through either in any appreciable amount of time.

Personally, I hold Ducky's quality above Vortex when it comes to keycaps.  But I haven't purchased a Vortex set in over a year, so it's also very possible that their quality has improved.  Up to you though, really.

PERFECT, the set i preferred was the ducky with dye sub anyway. M only concern was be if somehow the vortex double shot keys were better enough to be worth sacrificing preference.

 Thanks man

go for the ducky set. Ducky thick pbt sets are great.

Actually, dyesubs may change colors (see blurred violet/brown legends on some vintage keyboards), but we're talking about a very long time here.

Why not get both?

Or consider Tai Hao PBT - they are very reasonable too.
