Title: Happy New Year from Nebraska
Post by: TheWhiteAndTheBlue on Fri, 01 January 2016, 02:00:30
Glad to join the community here at GeekHack. Started using mechs a little over a year ago and just made the transition into the 60% world!

Here's my current board, loving it.

Welcome to Geekhack!

Nice keyboard :)  A shame about the \| key though ;)

Which other keyboards did you try before moving to 60%?

I know! Haha, it was a Massdrop buy that I got a pretty good deal on so for my first PBT set, beggars can't be choosers I guess.

My original board that I still have and use is a Rosewill Apollo full size with MX Brown and Blue LEDs. I still use it on other computers around the house and it has served me well.  After that, I bought a Noppoo Lolita Spyder 87 with Kailh Browns. Nice board, but the keyfeel just wasn't for me. I ended up giving it to a co-worker who then promptly got hooked on mechs himself!  ;D

I picked my current board up from r/mechmarket knowing that I really wanted to try out a small form factor and clicky switches. Best decision I've made. Glad to find this forum! Look like a great community.

Vortex were the first PBT doubleshots, IIRC.  Shame about the legends though.  There are a few other cheap(er) PBT doubleshot sets available now, including some from Tai Hao, which are surprisingly good.  Can you believe the first Tai Hao group by (albeit for ABS doubleshots) was $9.50 a set!  It eventually went up to $12 a set as we needed a more conventional space bar than their original set provided, plus one or two other keys for ANSI compatibility.

The Noppoo served you well - it gave you experience of a different switch, that you discovered is not your favourite, and allowed you to introduce someone else to the joy of mechanical keyboards!  I've gotten one other guy at work hooked on mechanical keyboard, but he's borrowing one of my Ducky Shines atm.
