Title: Keyboard search: Brown Cherry USB ~$70
Post by: Viett on Sun, 22 November 2009, 18:12:30
Does such a board exist? I tried looking for a Cherry G80-3000 but couldn't find a US reseller. Filco is a little pricey, and used boards are not USB. I'm looking for a standard ANSI board.

To the best of my knowledge, there are no US layout G80s with brown switches. I've seen German ones, but that's it. I'd recommend a Compaq MX11800 and a USB converter... Probably cheaper than $70.

EDIT: Oh wait, what about that iRocks keyboard? Does anyone know if they are still around?

You can get a used PS/2 one and a USB adapter. I've heard some good things about one called the "Blue Cube".

The board is not for me, and my friend does not exactly was an enormous dirty used PS/2 board with a converter (although I probably would not mind). Used FILCOs are neither cheap nor available, so they're out. I-Rocks boards have terrible layouts and cost $100.

Get a Compaq MX11800 (Cherry browns), then buy an active adapter for a few bucks.

afaik the one they sell at datacal.com is the only way you can get a g80-3000 with browns. I think it's considered a custom-order

If you want to go cheap, you can get an old Compaq rackmount keyboard with brown Cherry's and a trackball for much lower than 70USD. Take a look on Ebay and I bet you'll find some.

Here's one. It's a little pricey at $50 but looks to be in good shape:

Or, if you're into keyboard trays, you can't miss this one!
