Title: Hello Geek Hackers
Post by: Moistgun on Sun, 10 January 2016, 21:05:51
Hi there.

I'm new to the MK hobby and recently got into it from PC gaming, reddit, and linus.

I currently use a QFR tk with MX blues.

I have been planning to build a 60% board soon, and all of my research keeps taking me to a different thread on GH.
I've already learned so much from this forum that I figured I need to sign up and enjoy the benefits  :thumb:

I joined a few days ago, and I am still a bit overwhelmed navigating the forums.
I am very excited to get to know you all, and maybe get my self some Booper's caps while i'm at it.

I just want to mention that i'm a professional lurker and always have been.

I'm trying to get more active socially in the activities that I am passionate about.

Welcome to Geekhack!  Which 60% were you looking to build / which games do you mainly play?

I have one of the knockoff GH60, Chinese "Satan" PCBs in the mail.  I will use that with an aluminum plate I bought from LeandreN. For switches, i'll be using Gateron browns with blank white PBT caps. So far I just plan on doing a traditional layout.

As far as games go...
I really have been hooked on CSGO for some time now, but its getting to be too frustrating and time consuming  :-\.
Usually I play RPGs.
I really would like to try out rocket league when I get around to it.
I have also been playing The Long Dark, which has been pretty great so far!

Welcome to the forums, i just joined a few weeks ago for the same reasons, had been lurking for a couple years.

I started with a Func mechanical keyboard with MX Blues. And joined right when i was starting my 60% board.

I acctually went for the satan GH60 as well, and paired it with an orange aluminum top plate from LeandreN and used Cherry MX clears as i have a preference for really heavy switches. I also went for a traditional layout and for a case i got a used aluminum one that is supposed to be used in the Pok3r, with thick PBT keycaps from geekkeys.

I acctually just finished it last night and so far i am absolutely loving it. Soon i will play around with the firmware and key mapping on the satan GH60 since a few members have made some fairly simple guides on doing so.

Welcome to Geekhack!

For someone new to mechanical keyboards you've made some good decisions for your 60% components.

You're welcome to create a build log thread in making stuff together (https://geekhack.org/index.php?board=117.0).  Expect a few questions, post a few pictures, and you'll fit in no worries :)

Thank you Connly!
Its funny how similar our situations are!

Maybe when I get into adding multiple layers, I can recruit you for some of your experience with the firmware and board.  ;)

Thank you rowdy!

once I have all my parts I plan on putting together a full build log to show my trials and tribulations.

I was thinking the same thing, and its the main reason i replied after seeing your post :p

I dont have much firware experience, but hopefully by the time you add layers and stuff i will have had some time to play around with it.

I'm planning on diving into it and playing with some set ups,  I have heard some layering issues with this PCB though.

We'll just have to mess around with it and see!
