Title: Half off all Razer peripherals for one day only
Post by: jameslr on Thu, 14 January 2016, 10:24:22
http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2016/01/razer-will-sell-all-of-its-peripherals-at-50-percent-off-for-one-day-only/

You could get an Orbweaver Chroma for $65. I believe shipping is free for orders over $45.

Not everything Razer sells is garbage, and if you think so then this thread definitely isn't meant for you. Why are you even here?

i'm here bc i'm a patriot and i love gh

and ur phrasing was v passive aggressive. the only line to take after u ask that is: "bc razor is garbage," which would be so redundant.

i'd rather there be dissenting opinions than non-contribution. pls don't be bothered by internet chums today is a good day

I wouldn't buy any Razer KB or headphones (waste of space) but I've had 2 death adders and like the grip more than my Logitech G9X.  Think I got them for $40 each + some other bonus like BioShock maybe.  Long time ago.

Some of you mentioned that Razer mice is okay, but the truth is, there are way better options out there, as Razer mice sometimes have acceleration problems and bloaty firmware/drivers.

Mouse wise, Logitech, Mionix, Zowie, Finalmouse, and others are way ahead of the game, have very ergonomic shapes (depends on the person), and good firmware.

Of course, if you get it for free, that's awesome, and that's a whole other argument (I don't complain about things I get for free).

Therefore, I really cannot think of a single product of theirs that has a competitive edge over other options in today's market.

Every razer product I ever owned broke within the first year, I don't mind the Razer Naga due to the extra keys but there are better options out there. I will never buy from Razer, even if they had a 90% off sale.

Haters will hate.

They make some good mice.

It is heavily spazzed up for gamers and in my opinion their keyboards are ugly.

But some of their products work great for what they are.

I just flipping hate their bloatware driver update thing.

**** that thing.

Even with the half off I'm better looking elsewhere, then again I'm only eyeing a potential spare deathadder which isn't exactly new, have one that replaced my Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 (rip 2004-2012 although I should've retired it around 2008).

Grim Fandango has posted a very good guide (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=56240.0) on mice!

FWIW, the Deathadder 2013 is still my main driver after having gone through multiple rotations with the Zowie FK2014, FK1, and Logitech G303 (my main work driver).  The Deathadder Chroma is very close (same sensor and shape).

That said, I really really really hate how the Synapse software used to tweak Razer mice (DPI, lights) requires you to log in to an online account.  This was not something I realized when I first bought the mouse and for that reason alone I would not get the Chroma if my 2013 broke.

My first mech was a Razer Black Widow with MX Blues. I still have it 3 years later, and use it at work. No issues with it, my Razer mouse (now at work too), or my headset.

Looks like the site crashed and A LOT of people couldn't even order and then everything was 'out of stock':

It did, yes. I was moderately interested in a Chroma at the 50% price point (to compare to my K70 RGB w/ Blues), but of course the website wouldn't even load for hours and by the time I was finally able to get in they were 'out of stock' of just about everything. Probably for the best, all things concerned.

Curiously, the Stealth model was still in stock when I last checked. Not interested in MX Brown knock-offs, however. I prefer my tactile, clicky switches.

I did grab one of the mousepads for a friend, though.

It looks like I'll need apologize for getting ticked when people have waded in and slagged my Great Finds posts here.

I thought I was just taking my own time to let everyone know about things I considered good values, and allowing them to make their own, informed decisions about them.

Apparently, though, it's an actual GH tradition to abuse anyone who dares to advise the Great KB Gurus of GH on supposed noteworthy deals, vainly imagining that any real bargains could possibly escape their all-seeing, all-knowing attention.

Oh Great Gurus, I humbly beg your forgiveness for annoying you with crappy stuff that I, in my inexcusable ignorance, imagined would be worth Your All-Valuable Time to behold. I now humbly withdraw to my corner, never to pester you again with any finds, "Great" or otherwise.

Im sorry, but im going to have to defend OP here, even if i dislike razer myself. The amount of flak hes getting for posting this is absurd and completely unright.

At full prices, Razer Chroma keyboards cannot compare to the likes of other $200~ ish keyboards in the range, TO US.

We're all keyboard enthusiasts, and Razer products are not targeted IN ANY WAY towards us.

"Great Finds" is for posting products that have a great value for their market price. 50% off retail is a great deal in absoutely any situation, no matter if its a GON keyboard or a Razer product.

If you dont like it, thats fine. It doesnt take away the fact that it's still a great price compared to what it usually sells for. Heck, you could've just bought a bunch of Chromas if you got on the website quick enough and resold them on ebay or to your college mates.

Theres no point giving OP **** for something that is completely valid to be posted here. If you have your opinions, take them somewhere that isnt related to something being a good value compared to its retail.

Thank you for this, I was going to post something to this effect as well, but you beat me to the punch.

I will say, I have not owned a full blown keyboard, but I have owned the Nostromo after they picked it up from Belkin, an Orbweaver prechroma, and a handful of mince, from the Copperhead, deathadder, and a couple Naga, and their hard aluminum mouse pad.  I have not had any issues with any that didn't have outside interference.  The only issue I was having was my first Naga had "invisible wall" issues.  This turned out to be condensation from my hand and wrist interfering with the sensor on the aluminum mouse pad.  Not Razers fault.  I did get rid of the MX blues in the orbweaver for reds on WASD and clears everywhere else and swapped the green LEDs for blue.  But I knew I was going to when I bought it.  Yes their Synapse software is pretty bloated, but I have never had a problem with it.

Razer isn't that bad, they could use a better OEM, and they cater toward the "gamer" but that tends to happen if a company wants to remain as profitable as they have become in a market that products can be had for $10 total with mouse and keyboard.

I am going to apply the same logic here as when I hear people ***** about whats on the radio.  Don't like it, change the station, or in this case, don't buy the product.

Don't feel offended at all because it's ME.  I always kick in anyone's need to own a Razer Product because I'm a 100% confirmed Razer Hater from way back.

There are too many Razer Lover's per head of population in the world which is so sad hence you need to level off that type of sickness with some major Razer butt-kicking and I have volunteered to do that for FREE.

When anyone mentions any Razer Love here on GH then expect the full Anti-Razer Squad to knock down your front door and demand that you assume the position.  You can't be a serious Keyboard or Mouse Fanatic, if you want to own a Razer Product, enough said  8) .

I just had to write that, as calling Razer garbage is completely irrelevant to why this post was written.

OP didn't even call Razer the "best" or "superior", and we already start bagging on him. If I was in the us and caught onto this earlier, an orbweaver for 65$ shipped doesn't sound that bad at all.

What if someone doesn't have access to any mech but a Razer due to location and other circumstances?

I live in one of the MOST isolated Prison Settlements ever created on Earth YET have access to every type of keyboard and mouse available around the world, it's called the internet.  Have owned previous Razer mice that all have broken away into nothing hence I know all about their so-called "non" quality and extortion like prices.

I work union and only buy American based vehicals, Ford GM, and Chrysler.  Do I bash and rag on everyone who drives something else?  No, because I have respect for their decisions.

We work on Caterpillar Equipment - have also dealt with the odd Volvo, Liebherr and Komatsu and we all dread working on them except Caterpillar, which are dead easy to maintain and keep running 24/7.

There's a reason why all Mining Corporations stick with Caterpillar because they are the best in their field hence we always promote and encourage their usage everywhere, that is why we need to convince total newbs what to use on their sites if they want no down time.

Simply keeping your mouth shut won't promote a better workplace or business because most people are ignorant on what is available.   Geekhack is suppose to be that place to get informed but frankly keeping quiet only helps to promote the ignorance for all newbs that are already highly susceptible to Razer Rubbish Propaganda.

Just because a person has access to the internet, does not mean they are not price locked from other brands.

All I am saying is while mentioning a particular brands reputation for quality shortcommings is fine, acceptable, and most the the time needed or wanted, it wouldn't hurt to tone down the hatred.  Not everything they make is total ****, and not everything made by Ducky, Filco, IBM, Tex, etc, are Gods gifts to keyboarding.

I consider myself a pretty serious keyboard enthusiast, however I currently have 2 razer products on my desk, would have 3 by my desk isn't wide enough, and I am not cutting up my Razer mouse pad.  The keyboard I have sitting between my Orbweaver and my Naga is my F AT, hacked modded, with remote mounted controller.   So where does that put me by your definition.
