If I ever get a KMAC I thought it would be a great option to get backlighting by using the B87X2 PCB. I've heard they might be compatible. Anyone know or tried it before?
i got the kmac gon. no modding needed. not sure if he still sells the pcb and plate.

Totally forgot that he sold the a PCB specifically for the KMAC, glad to know there is no modding needed. Unless he wanted to save a few bucks and go with the Nerd PCB, the plate mod seems really easy.
P.S. If you ever need to sell that KMAC, I'm your guy. :p

i don't think the nerd pcb would even work since the usb position is different from kmac's dimensions

Hmm I guess you're right, I remember reading an old thread where GON stated that it would. Perhaps he has made revisions to that PCB since then.

well, technically it's possible but your usb port will be deep inside lol
If you get a KMAC? Do you have a sale lined up or are you just hoping to get one, they don't appear on classifieds that frequent. Including the one put up today, I've seen two go for sale in the past couple months.
And no the B87X2 would not work, the USB is on the wrong side. I believe GONs PCB should work though.

You and me both. I think many people were going for that KMAC. It was pretty perfect for what I wanted.

I was looking into a different one, and then I got out bid by over $200 for some reason. Why anybody would pay $700+ for a KMAC just blows my mind.

My KMAC has the Gon KMAC PCB and frosted polycarbonate plate, they're excellent. The SMD backlighting looks great, the plate feels awesome, and Nerdy GUI isn't bad. I would recommend them.

Oh, wow, that does look amazing. How would I go about getting a frosted poly plate?
And, what switches did you use that worked with the surface mount LEDs? I know Gaterons don't have the notch in the bottom for them, but I'm wondering if they would work anyway.

SMD doesn't go in switch, it goes on the PCB. So it doesn't matter what switches you use. The frosted polycarb plate diffuses the light to give it that even glow.
I'm not sure, classifieds or speak to GON?
Damn this thread popped up just in time. I've been wanting to get a second PCB and plate so I can have two different setups in my KMAC. Really want a setup with 65g Zealios.

I couldn't find the polycarb plate on his website. Can you link to it? I only saw the steel plate with anodizing options.

Yeah, the SMD LEDs are pretty far away from the switch. Thanks, yeah, I was thinking maybe the switch itself wouldn't rest flat against the PCB if their was a surface mount LED below it.
But, apparently, that's not an issue so that's cool.

I really recommend Gons plate and PCB, simply beautiful. I also enjoy typing on the polycarb more than the alu. Nice thock, and a soft but solid feel. :)
I want to switch mine up, and change the layout to split backspace and short right shift. I need to find the time somewhere first though!Yeah, the SMD LEDs are pretty far away from the switch. just looked at the price, at 60 USD for the pcb and plate is more expensive when i got it, but still seams reasonable.
found it on there, really tempted to make another config.

all work out of the box with no modding needed.
he had a group buy for those at one point so im pretty sure these are left overs. but yea there you go.
steez, thanks man but at this point im soo far in the hole with it that even if the thought crossed my mind, my conscious wouldnt allow me to sell it.
zenna im using a powercoaded matte black plate with the pcb.
lol if the opportunity is there, i would be semi serious too! more serious then semi though. :P s'all good! but i wanted to say you are pretty much me last year-ish. got bunch of korean keyboards back to back. sad thing is i dont even use the kmac... its sitting in the closet.
the LZ-CP is my main board. LOVE that kbd to death. its literally best board i own. so much so that i was contemplating trading my LSv1 for a 60% because between the kmac and lz i know i wont use any other keyboard. That LSv1 is doing no one any favors by collecting dust in the closet... under the kmac... in the box. packed up.
i just hope you are in a better spot with all your new gear!
I think the problem is that I keep buying boards because I'm sick of waiting for the other ones to come in lol. Once they all arrive I most likely won't know what to do with them all. :p

unfortunate but true. i got the LS for that very reason. while waiting for the lz. i couldnt ditch the numpad.
but patience is a virtue after all, and good things come to those who wait. or at least thats what i keep telling myself, i have otd's red alert set which should come in tomorrow. hopefully i wont buy any more sets till then!
i need me a kpad. but its too expensive for what it is. never really fancied a kmac mini. always found it kind of weird to use. also it reminds me alot of the old g15 keyboard from logitech. minus the numpad, ****ty build quality and the bells and whistles.
speaking of the LZ CP though i need to update my build log with that... whenever i find my photos from the build.
im sure you will someone is bound to want to get rid of thiers eventually. more about timing then rarity, i think.
the reason i settled with a LZ-CP rather then a tx1800 was mainly the size. on my desk it takes no more room then my kmac. i had a look at the dimensions of the tx1800 and it was big enough to not fit under my cintiq. so it wasnt much of a choice for me. would definatly be an interesting board to use.
im ok with the tkl and 60% layouts given the keycaps have illustrated layouts. sadly the only place to get them are from signature plastics, and they are really expensive. and you have to print legends after wards. too much work. my to do list is soo full it makes me uncomfortable how far behind i am. do update your build once you get all them boards in!
you can always take it apart and put it back together again! :D
