Title: Windows Wheel Mouse Optical
Post by: LXXXIX on Thu, 21 January 2016, 10:06:13
Yes I want one of these.

Anyone have a clue where I can find one NIB for decent price?

I checked Amazon and there's not too many.

Please help.  :'(

I love these and pick them up whenever I find them in a junk pile for about $3 or less. They are not common, but not rare either.

I give them a thorough cleaning with alcohol and figure that it will be OK.

A new one is likely going to be hard to find.

Looks like the 1.1a (I think this is the latest revision to the WMO) is available at Newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826105099) from one of its third party vendors.

I checked this one out too. The vendor looks a little risky.

I think the WMO from Ali is the latest model, but they included intellimouse 1.0 in the title to get more hits. If you see  the photos it looks legit according to the bottom of the mouse. I ordered one last night  to see if it's nice. I will give an update one it's here.

They also sell plenty of intellimouses 1.1 for sale. I might have to pick one up later as well just to have around.

The photos definitely don't match the description of the product.  I wish the picture of the label on the aliexpress site was clearer.  AFAIK, the 1.1A has the word "1.1A" on the label but the 1.1 doesn't.  There is some contention as to whether there is a real difference between 1.1A and 1.1 or if it's nothing more than an OEM vs retail designation (see here (http://www.overclock.net/t/1469371/how-to-tell-if-a-wmo-is-1-1-or-1-0-crap-version#post_21839375)).

As long as you don't get a 1.0 (bad sensor) it should be fine.  I'll be curious what you actually end up with :))

I used my WMO through college and then some until it was orange (yes, I moved past yellow) but I don't think I could get another one.  The thumb button is too useful for me.  The IntelliMouse though...maybe...hmm...

Very good points you bring up. Thanks for showing me that link. Maybe they use the old sensors. I might have to cancel, which I still can. I might just get an Intellimouse 1.1  like this one.

Plenty have been sold. :thumb:

Goodwill my friend is where you want to check. At my Goodwills they've got WMOs almost every other time I go but the IMO 1.1 and 3.0 a bit rarer to find. If you can't find one at a thrift store, eBay used would be your next best bet. I'd imagine you could get one for a few dollars plus a few shipping. I'd avoid any 'new' WMO/IMO since I have heard too many stories of them being cheap knockoffs without the mlt04 sensor. As mentioned the "Wheel Mouse Optical" vanilla without version will have the correct sensor you are looking for but the Wheel Mouse Basic won't, despite looking identical.

What I've grabbed in the past <5 months all $0.99 each:

edit: that eBay listing looks solid with that many sales.

My local Goodwill has a company that takes all the computer equipment and refubishes/salvages it to make a profit. Believe me I've tried. :(

There's never anything there besides some crappy HP or Dell membrane boards. That's it, not even a ball mouse is saved.  :))

Manager near me said that Goodwill of North Georgia doesn't sell computer gear because "real" computer stores asked them not to.

Damn, so much for freedom of trade.

I thought you lot in the US had free trade within your own borders because you're sounding a lot like my Convict Settlement here and we practice intimidation everywhere so easily, within our borders  ;D .

Some locations have Goodwill stores specifically designated to sell just computers and accessories.

Must be nice. We have nothing like that here.  :(

The one closest to me is really overpriced.

Those were indeed great mice. It's always remarkable when something ubiquitous becomes so scarce.

In terms of sheer usability, I've found the Comfort Optical Mouse 3000 (http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ultimate-mouse-hunt,1114-14.html) quite similar, if you don't mind the small side button (which I set to "Undo"). I don't know if you'll have any more luck find those, though. I was lucky to get the last couple of NIBs here in Vancouver.
