Title: Hello
Post by: salbert on Fri, 22 January 2016, 02:19:57
I found this message board while doing some general Googling about mechanical keyboards, as I have recently obtained my first one. It's a CM Storm Quickfire TK w/ Cherry MX Brown switches (http://www.amazon.com/CM-Storm-QuickFire-TK-Mechanical/dp/B00A378L10). I chose the brown switch because everywhere I read said that browns are best for beginners, but I feel like they may be too light for tastes. Perhaps blues are more of my style. Regardless, it's definitely an improvement over rubber dome.

Anyways, I love the idea of a message board of keyboard enthusiasts so I just wanted to join and say "hi". Old style message boards like this seem to be a rarity these days so it's nice to see one so active that caters to such a specific niche.

Welcome, When did you get the CM storm?

A couple days ago now. I really like the compact design that combines the arrow keys with the number pad. I haven't really seen any other keyboards like it. The only complaints I have with it are the lack of USB ports on it and the typeface on the keycaps.

Yeah I have the same board and have my gripes with it sometimes.

I think you ought to give it more time for the browns, you might come to like it.

Welcome to Geekhack!

Quite a few people have trouble navigating Geekhack.  I like this forum style - I can find what I want, and browsing new topics is easy.

You could replace the keycaps - many people do with CoolerMaster keyboards (I did with both of mine).  Unfortunately the TK has a non-standard bottom row so you'll find it a bit more difficult to find a keycap set that will completely fit.

MX blues are clicky - if you doin't like noisy switches or need to use the keyboard where others might be sensitive to the noise, and if the only thing wrong with the browns is that they are too light, perhaps MX clears would be more suitable?
