Hi guys, after much review and feedback through another thread on GeekHack and other keyboard communities on a keycap I prototyped and originally had planned to sell for a small batch (15 units) I had found that the price was way to astronomic and outrageous (and agreeably so on my behalf). I have decided to move onto conducting a group buy. It is a keycap machined from Aluminium then coated with a matte paint. Pictures can be seen below:

The extra wall thickness on the top of the cap gives the cap a lot of extra weight and oomph when pressed! *THUMP*


Here's a video of how it sounds in comparison to an ABS key (on MX Blue). NOTE: this is a prototype version of the keycap! There have been changes made to it since the video ^__^

I'll say this: I'm not a fan of most of the artisans that have come out of this huge explosion of makers, but I do think this really simple, clean design looks awesome and I think these will sell really well

Being "raw aluminum" is it truly raw, or does it have some sort of coating to combat oxidization/corrosion?

Can't wait to try them for myself! I was interested in these keys when they first popped up but sadly didn't see a color that called to me. The new colors though are just PERFECT for my setup  :thumb:

Oops sorry for the confusion Romevi, yes Naasfu is correct, it's specifically so it could fit inside the Novatouch sliders.

...however, now that I think about it, I could possible get it to work with both - but looking at the Topre stems (on the cap) they seem to reach down a lot longer - so I'm not sure how stable it would be is the only issue, and it has a positively gradiented mating stem on the inside of the Topre mount, so yeah... TRICKY.

wow, I love the keycap - I've been looking for a contoured keycap for some time, aluminium is a great material choice, as the main problem with a contoured keycap would be sweating and grime build up in-between, but since aluminium is cold, less of an issue

It would be great to see R4 versions of these, if R4 versions were available I would probably buy 4 to use them as arrows
The reason: Integrated arrows in 60%/75%'s benefit a lot from differentiation

(And for future, different sizes for different spots, yet since manufacturing costs are a concern, I'm guessing this is unlikely)

Aww cheers dude! Yeah, I can see the issue with grime build-up, may act like a soft cheese-grater LOL, we'll see what happens :P

I'd love to make some arrow key profile ones at some point :S I'll have to cost it out, but yeah, definitely a great idea and I'll look into it in the future :D Would you find it weird if they where profiled in their own unique way separate from the other keys? Like if the arrow keys were like a separate entity to the rest of the board in terms of profile?

The raw keycap is an ongoing product, so it shall return! I will also be giving one away in a raffle in the next following weeks :D
I may get also get a few when I do the Topre edition :)
