Title: Bamboo keyboard
Post by: AndrewZorn on Thu, 26 November 2009, 11:37:59
they cant even get a good picture, but they come up with this marketing bull****:

    * This is a new green product.
    * 80% of the material is used of Bamboo.
    * Bamboo is a natural material which absorbs UV and is good for the vision.
    * Owing to the idiosyncrasy of homoeothermic, bamboo can lower down the temperature of other modules of the keyboards, so as to extend the operating life of the keyboard.

Omg andrewzorn I was about to quote that 1 minute after you did..

This is a new green product.
80% of the material is used of Bamboo.
Bamboo is a natural material which absorbs UV and is good for the vision.
Owing to the idiosyncrasy of homoeothermic, bamboo can lower down the temperature of other modules of the keyboards, so as to extend the operating life of the keyboard.

I don't know about you but if I can get a keyboard that Owing to the indiosyncrasy of homeothermic, bamboo can lower down the temperature of other modules of the keyboards, so as to extend the operating life of the keyboard.

That's just smart business, I mean, make it out of bamboo so you can lower down the temperature of the other modlues of the keyboards, so you can extend the operating life.  It's genius, this is why model M's are a thing of the past and this is the next hot thing.

Oh yeah, and UV resistant keyboard, that is really really smart, I cant count the number of times I have developed melenoma and cataracts from reflections off of my non-UV resistant keyboard.

roflol Good vision is important.  I think they mean it'll give you 20/20 vision if you buy it? lol

Is that sarcasm?  I sure hope so.  "Thinking green" hasn't helped anything.  It's an ad campaign...  it's a scam, a hoax, a deception of the highest order.  Buying into the "green" movement is being willfully deceived.  There are a lot more "bamboo keyboards" out there if you're gullible enough to drop coin on something labeled "green".

thinking green is all good and well, but they should probably work on the "brutal subjugation of ethnic minorities" thing first- then maybe i'll buy into a bamboo keyboard (depending on how many animals and rivers are slaughtered and poisoned to make it).

also good show webwit.

Plastic keyboards get the job done just fine for me.

Personally, I'm all for bamboo if the quality, feel, cost, and length of use is as good or better than what's currently available.  I'd be even more for it if they actually made it a good compact board like the siig.

why are people making keyboards with wood or bamboo?! I doubt it even feels good to type on.

I think the feel would be as good or better than plastic as far as the key goes.  The switch used might be another problem. The look is far superior and way more classic than a plastic.  If you're into decoration, having a really nice looking room, and having a computer that blends, then it would be a real necessity.

I've always wanted a wooden keyboard. It would be awesome to check out the acoustic properties of different kinds.

Such a mod would be incredibly time consuming, though, even with a good mill.

They have that computer controlled mill from Sears.....

I can't afford that lol. I'd have to borrow a mill and even then, I don't have any CAD knowledge. The only part i'd be useful for is sanding/staining and/or varnishing the parts. Lord knows I'm not milling out a 104 key keyboard by hand.

If you need only to touch wood, Hack a day shows a keyboard made with wooden scrabble tiles, with custom tiles for the non-alphabetic keycaps. I'm ready to do the same for my next model M mod project.

Touch me here (http://www.datamancer.net/keyboards/scrabble/scrabble.htm) for the full project description.

The Scrabble keyboard was one of my favorite mods of theirs.  I want.

lol touch wood
I wonder if that would work for scissor switches? seems about the right size

If you built the case right, you could use regular switches.  You would have to make the case a little taller to compensate for the low-profile Scrabble keycaps to keep the look right.  Looking at the one in the link, it seems like that's what they did.

That's my only beef with it.  It's too tall.  About 3/4" is perfect.

It might be more comfortable however with the right type of wrist pad.

If anyone gets the bamboo keyboard, you could pair it up with this (http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/10/foxconn-distracts-all-with-txm-355-bamboo-desktop-chassis-brews/).

I'm surprised that's your only "beef" with a keyboard that forces you to "touch wood".

If you want a wooden board that "feels" good, this is probably your best bet:

I have seen these on ebay for quite a while.

I knew these keyboards but one can't choose the tenkeyless or the switches (only blue MX).

For that price more personnalisation could have been a plus.

By the way bamboo is not so green, harvest, transformation, toxic glue, coating...

It's more look and greenwashing than green
