Title: Looking for barebone or not too expensive keyboard
Post by: Diokhan on Wed, 27 January 2016, 13:47:26
Hey guys,

My brother is interested in a mechanical keyboard.
His birthday is in 2 months and I want to get him one.
He tried my switch tester and he would like to have mx blacks.

I was thinking to get him a barebone wasd.. but the shipping to the Netherlands is almost half the price of the keyboard.
And then I would need to pay customs on top of the product & shipping.
Does anyone know anyhing else I could go for around the same price, but in europe?

Thanks!

EDIT:
He is looking for a full sized board :)

Hey, you could check ebay for Cherry MX boards! Most of the boards do have Blacks.

This is a pretty barebones, but good keyboard:

I would also recommend the CM Storm Quickfire Rapid w/ MX Blacks if you can find it.

Just get whatever cheap MX Black keyboard you can find in Europe and pull the caps.

I fancy the Keycool 108, simple design, standard layout, and ships with moderately thick PBT keycaps! https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=932

It uses Kailh Blacks, but from my experience they feel just as good as MX Blacks, but they do take longer to smooth out.

http://www.keyboardco.com is based in the UK, you might be able to get something there for less shipping and import fees.

I know they carry Filco, it may be a bit overkill for what you want, but it will start him off well.  They also carry Matias, Unicomp and Cherry, again, none are bad.
