Finally!
After travelling way too much, releasing the Whitefox, another run of the Ergodox as well as prepping the KType for CES, I have time to organize another meetup!
The next meetup will be on
Saturday February 27, 2016 @ 1 PM
Massdrop HQ
100 Bush Street, Suite 1000
San Francisco, CA 94104
One of the reasons for the delay was that another venue fell through. Fortunately, Massdrop being awesome, offered to host on short notice :thumb:
BART is the most convenient way to get to Massdrop. It's a short 3 minute walk from Montgomery St. Station. 10th story. Just tell the guard you're with the Massdrop keyboard meetup. Parking...well, good luck, it's SF.
There will be early prototypes of BOTH the WhiteFox and KType ;D
Massdrop has also indicated they'll be doing some sort of giveaway. Rumors are that it's pretty awesome (perhaps unreleased?), so you definitely want to show up!
Please RSVP so we have an idea of numbers for food (and if you have dietary restrictions).
RSVP (https://ti.to/kiibohd/kiibohd-16-february-2016)
You'll also be added to the Kiibohd Meetup mailing list :thumb:

For sure! Too bad we couldn't hook up before I just left. I'll just blame Jwaz :p

Not too far, I might actually go. saturday too woot
-
I'll be there, as usual.
-
YES! SO excited for this one. Haven't been able to make the last few. Excited to meet you guys!
-
I'll be there! Hopefully with a working Burroughs Opto-Electric
-
I'm 100% there! I honestly don't know what to expect, and I hope there'll be someone there to show me the ropes :)
-
Just show up and play with keyboards is the main part. Always some interesting stuff people bring.
I might be there. If I can show up I'll have to drag along something like the Dolch to annoy IRC people with, or a Toshiba T5200 with meh alps or a PS/2 P70 with platesprings or some other old luggable. They're fun.

Lots of RSVPs so far. This is gonna be a big meetup :D

Mad jealous!

I really want to make it to one of these, just need to accumulate a few more airline miles or just move to the Bay Area. One of the two.
-
Probably a stupid question, but will there be vendors/anyone selling anything there? I just got my first HHKB, and I really want to spoil her.

Nah, not really. You'll have a lot better luck in classifieds.

Figured as much. Still really looking forward to going!

Yeah dude, I always have a great time at the meetups. See you there!
-
If I can get time off from work I would love to make this! It would be my first KB meetup too.

Hey everyone, super excited about this meetup (will be my first!)
I know HaaTa has alluded to giveaways and the like. We will be giving away two Elven Tongue granite kits. Thanks to both Signature Plastics and Matt3o in making all this possible.
There will be food and drinks. We will have some cool keyboards. Looking forward to meeting everyone!

So hyped for this! First keyboard meet up :)
-
My body is ready.

Thanks Massdrop for throwing this awesome shin-dig :thumb:

FYI:
The Kiibohd Meetups are 100% Haata created, promoted, and maintained activity. The meetups are held at various venues of Haatas choosing (Github, Massdrop, 24/7 Support, etc) so they are in different geographical areas of the bay area, with different attendees, and different focus. This helps keep things interesting and dynamic, not stale and routine. Many thanks to the various venues, it's a very generous undertaking hosting Kiibohd, Geekers, and the sometimes other assorted attendees. I've been to meetups with 10 people and others with 50. They're all good.
Note to first timers:
You will be REQUIRED to pledge, just like in school. So be prepared to run errands, clean crusty, Cheetos-filled keyboards for the OG crew, and stand off to the side quietly until addressed. You know, rules and such stuff. <joke> Just show up and chill, meet, look, ask questions, share your good stuff. It's very informal.
I've made lifelong friends through Geekhack, some are East coast (the wrong coast), Midwest (really?), Southerners (hahahaha) and the predominantly West coast-Best coast crew (you know who you are, and so does everyone else). To this day I'm surprised.

This is insane, we're at 90 people for RSVPs...I blame you Input Nirvana :P

Wow I wish I lived somewhere close; sounds like a lot of fun!
-
Aaaaand, we past 100 RSVPs :o
-
Hope everyone has fun tomorrow. Sorry I can't join.
-
Totally forgot about this until now. Hyped to have some fun tomorrow.

Sad this happened the week before I return to the bay area for a bit. Going to have to find some time this summer to host another one.

Gotta echo what Alex said, I hope everyone had a great time. I saw some really really unique boards.
Also, shoutout to Clueboard for adding to the giveaway!

I had a great time, especially seeing that one board at the end of the night, crumbs or no. ;)

Who owns the Dino keyboard? Didn't know of anyone in NA had one! Damnnnnn

This Haata Kiibohd meetup in many ways was head and shoulders above most, if not all others (I have not attended all meetups). The volume of people (100?) combined with the administering of the space (hats off to Massdrop for contributing the facilities, food, and the generous giveaways). I don't believe a great meetup requires 100 people, but it was interesting as I've NEVER been in such a large group of keyboard hackers. It was a very interesting experience. Some things were a little better, and other aspects were maybe not as good. Somewhat different dynamics due to the volume. Opened my eyes as to the increasing depth of this enthusiast hobby, the commercial potential, and the relationships that can be formed, and what a meetup or Keycon could be.
Regardless, it was great to re-connect with people, meet new keyboard geeks, see very coooool stuff. Some was very pretty, some was cutting-edge, some was vintage, some was just plain neat-o.
Thanks Haata
P.S. Nuclearsandwich: Glad you're coming back for the summer, gives an excuse to do another over-the-top meetup :)

They're a bit harder to find than most keyboards, but they're popping up once in a while. The guy that brought it to the meet had it, I have one, and jalaj had one but apparently gave it away :p
Kudos to Input Nirvana for paying forward the prize he won in the raffle to the next guy.

Hey everyone, we've finally finished developing all the pictures from the Kiibohd meetup two weeks ago. We also did a small writeup (https://www.massdrop.com/article/kiibohd-16-mech-meetup-md?mode=guest_open) with lots of pictures to show off the various keyboards and activities. We've also put the link to the photobooth pictures at the bottom of the article. Thanks again for those of you that showed up, we had a great time!
By the way, we identified the boards from memory so let us know if we messed yours up.

all those keyboards...
-
Hey, its been a while any new on a meetup? Even a small one. Really looking to try out some topre switches and meet some more of the community.

I'm about to put together the invite notice. Expect something in the next couple of hours.
-
Hi! I'm new here (been lurking for a while though).
How can I get added to the email list? I'm moving out West and would love to attend the next meet up.
-
The easiest would be right here -> http://eepurl.com/bi1kQn
There's also another meetup happening in September, if you RSVP you'll also be added to the mailing list: https://ti.to/kiibohd/kiibohd-17-september-24-2016

I apologise for hijacking the thread, but this seems to be the simplest/quickest way.
Would anyone be willing to pick up something keyboard related in San Jose and proxy it for me? If you like vintage stuff, you might get a nice freebie out of it :)
