Title: RIP Australia
Post by: Numpy on Sun, 31 January 2016, 00:43:40
I'm looking for a sleeved cable for my build and pretty much international shipping to Australia is murdering my wallet.

I'm not real game on spending 50 bucks for a USB cable and was wondering if anyone knows of a good place to purchase from Australia.

Cheeeeeeeeeeers.

ah dam

You could look at making one yourself, its not that hard shackmods ebay site sells heatshrink and wrap stuff

if you just got a usb cable you could cut one end off, cover and shrink it and then solder and shrink back on the other end.

That is if you have a soldiering iron

It's a good thought but I don't have a whole lot of time on my hands to learn how to make one and the only cable I could use is my Leopold cable which is just rubber and if worst comes to worst I can use it for my new keyboard.

I haven't seen anyone selling braided cables in Australia.

Are you shipping from the US?  Or the UK?

Maybe Pexon shipping might be better. http://pexonpcs.co.uk/

You can get sleeved usb cables from Jb hifi, **** Smith etc. It'll just be a phone cable right?

Yeah, I've already checked Pexon :/
It will be $50 from them for what I'm looking for

You located in Sydney? I was thinking of ordering a new cable and we can share the shipping cost maybe? Even then though, the conversion rate from pounds to AUD is awful :(

Here ya go

http://www.fishpond.com.au/Electronics/EZOPower-09m-Braided-Sleeve-jacket-Micro-USB-Data-Cable-for-Kodak-Easyshare-C123-Sport-C142-C143-C183-C195-C1505-C1530-C1550-M22-M23-Mini-M200-M522-M530-M531-M532-M550-M552-M575-M577-M580-M583-M590-M750-M5350-M5370-MD30-MD5/9999743381757?utm_source=googleps&utm_medium=ps&utm_campaign=AU&gclid=CjwKEAiA_ra1BRDV-byb_aDqpQoSJAA-ofB9ojzUXbmHYu8K1KZ7EfmakRkbHcMxaNYdvJ32_15GAxoCUVbw_wcB

Micro usb but you shouldn't  have any issues finding a mini usb connector.

I can help in this regard!

Make your own!

Connectors:
Mini USB: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/35Pcs-Mini-USB-5Pin-Type-B-Male-Plug-Connector-PCB-Mounting-Jack-Socket-/351464871361
USB: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-10sets-USB-Type-A-A-2-0-Male-4-Pin-Plug-Connector-Socket-connector-jack-DIY-/310939482458

Cable:
Paracord: http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_odkw=paracable&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.Xparacord.TRS0&_nkw=paracord&_sacat=0
There is more paracord than you can poke a stick at on ebay, there is the really cheap chinese stuff with the same old same old patterns or if you want the exotic cool ones there is stuff from the US that costs a bit more

Copper Cord: http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_odkw=paracord&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.Xusb+cord.TRS0&_nkw=usb+cord&_sacat=0
Buy whatever, the cheapest one I usually go for. I'm stripping off the ends and doing a proper resolder anyway

Heatshrink: http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_odkw=Heatshrink&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR11.TRC1.A0.H0.XHeatshrink+3%3A1.TRS0&_nkw=Heatshrink+3%3A1&_sacat=0
Again, take your pick on colours but make sure to get the 3:1 heatshrink to do the USB, normal 2:1 does not have enough shrinkage. Heatshrink is usually the most expensive part of this

Now you can make a cable with a lighter and a soldering iron. And you will have enough material left over for heaps more, especially if you get a few different varieties of paracord

Wow! This is pretty close to what I'm looking for but it may be a tad short.
I'll look into some other options.
Thanks so much for your input, Geekhack never fails to surprise me just how willing people are to help.
