Title: Teensy Mount
Post by: merlin64 on Tue, 02 February 2016, 21:49:41
Just wanted to share a find to everyone who has struggled with mounting their teensy

http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:167491

Looks like all you have to do is 3d print it. LOL.

I'll buy one for myself first and test fit and everything, then I'll do an IC as per GH regulations. Stay tuned =)

Yah so I'm looking up places for cheap 3d printing and it asks me if the STL file is in mm or inches, how do I tell?

i know ponoko.com does printing and laser cutting. ive used them before. they do pretty good stuff and cost isn't ridiculous usually.

as for the STL i'm not sure how to tell off hand. i use Fusion 360 and it defaults to metric but as long as its accurate it shouldnt matter i wouldn't think. i'll try to give it a once over tonight when i get home and see if i can be of any help. i'm also going to try and machine one out of acrylic ;)

Alright thank you very much. I'm looking everywhere and the cost doesn't seem too bad. Few bucks at most. However locally (WA state), I'm finding places that are much more expensive.

I'd love to get an IC/GB started but have to get all the info/source/pricing correct first =). Thanks Dernubenfrieken for the inspiration haha.

I might add that the unit I linked is for a Teensy 3.0, which is 2.0 mm longer than a Teensy 2.0, which from the looks of it, would make the usb port flush.

i'll let you know how mine comes out if i can get one machined tonight. i have some .25 acrylic lying around that needs a use.
if it comes out ok i'll send you one for the cost of shipping.

i'll probably do my own design tho so there is no infringement on the original design. depends on my needs. I have a project i'm working on that needs a teensy 2.0++ mount but it needs to be face down to be able to access the reset button without removing the back plate. PM me i'll keep you posted (as not to hijack the thread anymore)

I could 3d print a bunch of these no problem for people that are interested. My prints aren't show quality but if you're hiding it, it shouldn't be an issue.

I built in something similar to a custom board that I'm working on where the teensy 2 is just held in place by tabs and it works just fine.

You can kinda see it in this pic:

If you have the need for custom mounting points that is also something I could handle.

Oh and most things on thingiverse are in metric/mm.

My solution is to instead use a regular IC socket, but instead of using pins on the teensy that go into the socket, solder the sockets' pins in the Teensy's holes and insert the wires into the socket's slots.

Thanks JB

had to tweak it alittle to give it a more snug fit but other than that it came out real nice. hopefully i'll machine out a finished version tonight if i get time. house full of sick kids and family.

also of note the teensy 2.0 prototypes have been given away. but if anyone wants the "B stock loose fit" 2.0++ that is in the pictures pay me shipping or something. i like shipping acrylic in small flat rate boxes as acrylic tends to break pretty damn easy in the mail.

How to you keep the teensy in this version? The one Merlin64 linked is appears to have angled sides to prevent the teensy from popping out.

I'd be afraid of that coming loose over time.
