Title: Romer-G tour
Post by: ghostjuggernaut on Sat, 06 February 2016, 10:44:33
So I have a Logitech G410 and I wanted to see if there is any interest in a tour of sorts. I'd like to keep it CONUS for now, but may consider INTL in the future. If there is enough interest we can start it this week. I'd like to limit it to 10 people for now, with a week or less person. Requirements will be user of >2 months and 100 posts.

I'd ship it to the first user, and from then they can ship to subsequent people on the list. USPS game board flat rate shipping must be used also, so it's not entirely free.

I'd also ask for a short review after if possible.

See how it goes :D

Tentative List:

I'd be interested in this. Can you give a very brief description of how Romer-Gs feel to you?

I would say close to an MX brown, but with a shorter travel.  I enjoy it for gaming quite a bit.

Bro Caps swears by this board. I'm not interested, but I think it's a cool enough board.

Since there is so much un-realistic hype about it

sign me up GJ. The shorter travel distance is always a point of interest for me, as a matter of ergonomics.

Well they aren't the same, these are an OEM profile. However I would not say they are anything close to great.

I'm going to figure out the specifics of this tonight and make an update later.

I know its cliche, but I have been really busy and keep forgetting about this.  It is going to happen, hopefully this week.  Im going on vacation Friday and will try and have it on its way before then.

I'll update here when I get it sorted.

Switch type designed by Omron being used exclusively in Logitech keyboards currently. Unique in the way that an LED can be placed right in the centre of the switch, allowing for glow to only illuminate the legend with no light bleed around the keycaps.

Supposedly similar in feel to a cherry mx brown. Interesting concept in general, I'd like to try one someday for curiosities sake.

I would back this up.  Got to try a brown and romer-g side by side yesterday.  If you like browns you will probably like it.

Some first impressions:

- The keycap profile is sorta nice, I like more than the usual OEM
- The bottom row seems to be angled slightly oddly
- Not really a fan of the rubberizing on the caps
- Switches are pretty dope, light with a very short travel
- The angle with feet up is around 4/5 degrees, I had to prop the back up
- The board is light, but the case feels surprising sturdy

All-in-all a pretty decent board, might pick one up if I got money lying around someday

Honestly, IRL the design doesn't seem as horrifically gaudy. It's still not an attractive board by any means, but not the worst. The mini wrist rest on the left side of the board is nice, just supports the bottom of your palm a bit. RGB lighting options are cool if you're into that (the transition between colors on the rainbow setting is very smooth.

Another note about the switches: they have a somewhat topre-sounding "thock;" these sound nicer than Cherry IMO.

And I still think that if I ever had $130 just lying around, I'd definitely consider picking one of these up.

Yup. It's not like full on Topre thock, but it's definitely similar and lower in pitch than Cherry.

All righty. So. It's nice, and I'm looking to pick up one of the new models coming out. Not sure yet if I need the extra keys, but the ones with fewer keys look a lot sleeker.
The stabilizers are the ones I don't like much, although the Enter key is pleasant, for some odd reason. The distance isn't too far to hit bottom, but the switches have a nice snap when they rebound.

I had initially signed up for this tour, but skipped on it as I ended up getting ahold of a coworker's g810. So, just for a quick little review: Personally, I like these switches as much as sotck clears (my 2nd favorite MX flavor behind ergoclears) when they're not covered in those ****ty caps that come on the 910. I used it for a full 8 hour day at work and imo, they feel like an ergoclear with a slightly lighter bump. I'm fairly certain that the g810 will be one of my next boards after I 55g my 87u.

Yeah, the keycaps kinda ruin it. I can see me using the board more, though, if I can get at the stabs and change the caps.

One of my plans after the tour is over, is to try lubing the stabs. The drawbacks I have seen with the board are the same as yours. I hope they keep using this switch in their future boards.

First five minute impressions: Bad.

The spacebar causes a nice ping and the mods have this this weird plasticky noise on the rebound. The switches feel almost linear to me. Can't figure out how to make a rainbow with the RGB lighting :(.

I tried lubing the stabs on mine but it didn't make much difference. As soon as they make a TKL like the 810 I'll get that instead.

Yeah... I had one of the first FS to come out- didn't know if they'd changed it at all.  And it seems like these bloody companies that make their own switches would make them cherry compatible so you could correct their oversights.  I liked it overall for gaming.  But for wholesale typing?  Not really.
