Title: Swedx Wooden keyboard
Post by: joneslee85 on Tue, 01 December 2009, 18:19:00
Just found this nice wooden keyboard

http://www.swedx.se/product_info.php?products_id=42

I do not think it is a mech. switch but the wooden case could be valueable for hack. Imagine having an IBM M or Filco inside that wood housing. Nice piece of art!

when I first saw that, it reminded me of an incredibly yellowed AEK.

it's probably still a plastic case just with a wood grain sticker overlay.

It looks like you could easily fit a G80-3000 in that case.  Hmm...

It looks pretty fake.

It's not.  They have a whole line of wooden computer products.  They all look pretty ugly, too.  This keyboard is the best looking thing they have.  The mice and the monitors are atrocious.

At least the monitors look like they are actually using wood.

There's a dude on eBay selling sets of lasercut wooden keytops that mimic old typewriter keys. I'm considering 'steampunking' a keyboard and this seemed a better option (and, for $5, far cheaper!) than destroying an old typewriter, so I bought a set. It's a complete set for modern keyboard, including the Windows key. The ones I picked up have legends, but I'm sure he could do a set without. With a coat of poly-stain and this keyboard you might have a nice looking piece of desktop furniture!

I can't get to eBay from work, but here's the link to the item from the bid confirmation email: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120490726308&ssPageName=ADME:X:AAQ:US:1123 and here's the link to the seller: http://myworld.ebay.com/scottieporkchop?ssPageName=ADME:X:AAQ:US:1181.

A couple things to keep in mind:

If you can get the lip part managed (though ideally something that covered the edges as well as the silver lip part of the top), you could try cutting small circles of plexiglas or polycarb and putting those between the washer and the paper. It would have the dual effect of making it more authentic looking for "glass" covered keys and provide a durable wear surface (much better than any shellac).

Lotta work, though.

Edit: Perhaps a brass or stainless tube (matching the washer) whose OD is the same as the washer's and cut to length so it covers the plex and key edges, with the whole assembly glued together in a way the glue won't seep and spoil everything.

Now repeat 103 times...

Sorry for bringing back this old thread.

I've managed to get on of these keyboards from a closing spanish reseller for 8 euros. The "enter" key of the numeric keypad was loose and doesn't return to its position easily, I've removed it and it has a broken bit of plastic. Under the key, one can see the membrane. Therefore it is not a mechanical keyboard. Though the feeling of the keypresses are quite hard and better than average membrane keyboards.

The keyboard is stylish, wood is of quality as the rest of the keyboard and the mouse, but they lack any modern feature (i.e. only three buttons with wheel, no -special keys usb passtrhough. etc.

You can see a bunch of bad pictures of mine here

Mother of all necros. Do you have a picture of the monitor by any chance?

I can take you a picture of my venerable Philips S4, which I prefer to my other newer monitors because it lets some room to have my other gear (I have 4 cassette decks on my desk, with 4 more on a rack, 2 pair of speakers and a mid yamaha amplifier.)

Meant the wooden monitor, but it's cool nontheless.
