Title: Help me identify an 60 % aluminum case ...
Post by: hKing on Tue, 09 February 2016, 12:43:42
Hey there guys,

can someone identify the case from the attached picture?
It was advertised to me as an FMJ-Case - which is obviously not the case ...

Was it sold in some sort of group buy?

Sorry for the pic, I only have this one from the seller ...

Regards

That looks a bit like a Red Scarf aluminum case if I had to guess (for a RS96)

I have never seen a full aluminum Red Scarf before.

They usually always had some form of acrylic incorporated in it.

I would say it looks more like a legit Lightsaver.

Though I never owned a lightsaver just Red Scarfs so I cant say for sure.

Doh.

Then probably just some Chinese knock off.

Duck, LZ, Hammer and FMJ typically mark their boards.

FMJ doesn't have any markings on the inside. It does look similar to a FMJ case.

Here's what the inside of a FMJ case looks like. Photo credits to photoelectric

Obviously there is a liner in that picture of the case but the screw holes and stand points match up. hKing, if you can I would ask for another picture at a different angle. Especially on the back where the FMJ marking would be.

My problem is that I already bought that one  :-X

According to your picture, the clasps would match. They don't, blue case has 3, black case has 2!

But the blue case doesn't seem to have that cutout (at least I can't see it)...

Plus, the blue case has "sharp" edges, the case I posted has more rounded ones.

**** me, I do not hope that mate tricked me ...

Is it possible that FMJ had 2 revisions of that case?

Nevermind, the guy mailed me again: It's a knock-off from TaoBao  :(

It is still a nice case!

I have a fake Hammer case in front of me right now.

I love it!

Has the nice sharp edges and shape like the original.

Just doesn't have the Hammer stamp on the bottom.

You're right Bromono.
But imagine you buy a car said to be a Ferrari. When you get it, it's a Benz because the seller tought it was a Ferrari.
Still good, but not what you had in mind  :-[

Delivery is scheduled for tomorrow. I'll have a look into it...

Well did you pay the Ferrari price or did you pay the Benz price?

That looks a bit like a Red Scarf aluminum case if I had to guess (for a RS96)

I have never seen a full aluminum Red Scarf before.

They usually always had some form of acrylic incorporated in it.

I would say it looks more like a legit Lightsaver.

Though I never owned a lightsaver just Red Scarfs so I cant say for sure.

I have a full aluminum RS78 in front of me right now

hmm that's cool.

Every time I saw group buys they always had some acrylic factored in it.

My RS96, Which I went all out on, had an acrylic bottom and aluminum top.

The previous RS78 I saw was 100% acrylic but with a cut out for a brass weight.

Mind if I can see a picture?

(Sorry if I am derailing thread)

Don't have a pic of mine on me, but here's the Taobao listing for the aluminum bottom: http://world.taobao.com/item/521856108013.htm?fromSite=main&spm=a312a.7700824.w4002-3817085419.84.UZW4BI

I'm not sure if those ever came with the GBs or were aftermarket though

Heys guys,
I received the case today!

It's really not that bad. To be honest the only thing that's missing is the FMJ logo...

I just installed my aluminum plate from the recent SentrantPC buy from Massdrop. I realized that the plate doesn't line up precisely with the inner case. The plate is slightly smaller on every side (maybe 0,2 - 0,3 cm).

Is that normal?

Next question:

What screws do you guys use? The ones that came with the case are a bad joke. They are so small that they can't hold the plate down...
