The HHKB is the best keyboard in the world.
You heard it from me - The Cherry Picker.
MX5000 does come very, very close though, and MX boards still look nicer. I will forever remain a Cherry romantic.

GG
It's about time for me too but I have other things to collect first.

Until you start to factor in the effect of a metal housing on the delicate acoustics of topre switches.
-
Well, OP is correct. Lock it up. Nothing else to do here.
-
Yeah no.

Yo I'll finally have BS, MX, Topre all under the same roof for once.
Imma find my own answer without all your peer pressure.

The thread that should not be.

:] welcome, brother

May I ask you exactly what you like about it? Maybe people will start believing me when I tell them it's great if another established user says the same.

To be honest I didn't like it much when it was stock (this is a Type-S), but when I opened it up and lubricated all the sliders it started to feel brilliant. I then installed purple sliders which improved it a little bit again, but it was the lubrication that really made a huge difference.
In its modified state the main thing I like is the feeling of the switch, along with the great keycaps. I don't really like the layout any more than MX5000 or regular TKL, but the switches are just divine. Definitely the best I've used, although vintage browns do come close. Realforce isn't as nice :/

Hm, I guess I gotta try out lubed switches. Everybody raves about them. I find the board perfectly fine stock. But I think I'm in the minority there. Same with liking RF topre over hhkb topre. They feel more... smooth? I'm just not a fan of tkl anymore. Anyway, thanks for the response!

Definitely, definitely lubricate them if you can. The difference to me was like night and day. When I first got it I certainly preferred vintage browns and even Nixdorfs, but after modifying the switches it comes out on top. Have you tried a silenced one, or just an absolutely standard one?
I used 50/50 GPL 103 and GPL 205 mix and applied a decent coating to the areas where the sliders go, and also to the sliders themselves :

I'll give it a try when I get my pro2 back and will report back

You've sent it off on its voyage already?

It's on it's way to the second person as we speak.

How did the lube change the feel/sound?

How to ruin topre in two easy steps. Install mx sliders and add cherry caps.
Cherry with cherry and topre with topre.

I was wondering about that. I myself have lubed three topre boards (HHKB,RF,660c) but the only noticeable change is improved silence (less clacking maybe). I haven't really felt any real change in the keystroke itself.
I think the source of the lube and the viscosity would have somethign to do with it. I guess using a more thick formula will alter the stroke.

Cherry with cherry and topre with topre.
Pretty sure there's something in the Torah about not mixing Topre and MX. Definitely not kosher.
-
Topre has very delicate acoustics and tactility to it.
Change the case or even the caps and you can ruin that easily.
Digilog case plus MX caps is a direct trade-off between what makes topre good and aesthetics; though, in all fairness, some boards look even uglier after they get MX caps.

Too colourful..
Honestly, it's not so much the keyboards themselves. A lot of MX keyboards look really bad (that said, some look superb). I just think all keycaps look like crap compared to original Cherry ones. And then there's the customs...
