Title: What to do with $50 at Best Buy?
Post by: njbair on Fri, 12 February 2016, 23:04:35
I haven't been inside a Best Buy in like a decade. But I've got this $50 gift certificate. What should I buy?

Maybe an extra hard drive for your computer?

They sell some PC parts through the website and price match, so you could possibly put it towards that. Or use it to buy cards for any services you use, like iTunes, Google Play or whatnot.

The Google Play idea is a good one. I haven't bought any new music in a while. $50 could go a long way there.

Using gift cards to buy other gift cards. Brilliant.

On the subject of gift cards since I never buy them: do they tax you on top of whatever you load the card with? That would be dumb.

I don't think so because you pay sales tax later when you use the card.

Or use it for like 10 months of Google music. :)

Best Buy just had/has? a buy one get one 20% off gift card promotion. I got $40 worth of Nintendo cards for $36, and got the Best Buy cards themselves for 10% off during some eBay promotion. pretty neat.

Can I buy discounted gift cards with my discounted gift cards and literally create money?

They sell open box items for a good price.  I recently went laptop shopping and found Best Buy pricing, especially on open box items, to be very competitive.  But you only have $50, so a computer is out of the question.  As others have mentioned, a hard drive seems like a decent purchase.

Just saying if you need money for Google Play you can sign up for Google Surveys.

Most of the surveys are like literally 3 questions and will take you less than 20 seconds to answer. I've done quite a lot and I'm currently at around 18ish dollars. IDK what to spend it on though.

As fot what to spend it on I would say do the Steam Wallet thing. Maybe just wait it out for a game you may like.

I'll second the Google surveys. I've made $31.33 since May of last year. I also have no idea what to spend it on.

I try to hold on to certificates like that until I need to go there for something I was going to purchase anyway, like a new mouse or headset. Open box items are a good idea, so are other gift cards (can you buy gift cards for restaurants there?). Otherwise I'd wait and/or use it towards something nicer.

The new google chrome is awesome.

Mainly since now I can run everything on my AC signal. Just disabled the N signal outright.

I've earned about $57 so far. I usually spend the money on games and books.
