Title: How to find keycap sets? -- Looking for blank, thick beige PBTs.
Post by: Wulfre on Sat, 13 February 2016, 14:54:22
Keycaps are a fairly niche market, so I have no idea where to look in order to find quality sets -- especially specific colors or layouts. It seems that the market is so small that you can only find what you are looking for if you get lucky because there is no one place that keeps a large stock of everything.

Right now I am looking for thick (which I have come to understand as ≥1.5mm) PBT keycaps in a beige color, in standard measurements (CM QFR), without any printing on them.

I've definitely taken a look at that thread before, I just don't really want to wait 2+ months for my keycaps to be processed and shipped. The only reason I would participate in a group buy is if there is an exclusive/designer keycap set, of which do not really interest me at the moment anyway.

Well that is probably your only option to get what you want.

Well, you can look at buying some EnjoyPBT through a Tao Bao agent.

UKKeycaps do a Grey and Beige set: http://ukkeycaps.bigcartel.com/product/gateron-thick-pbt-blank-keycaps-iso-ansi

But they're on pre-order, so you're waiting again.

Honestly, that group buy is your best bet. Nothing in this hobby is instant when it comes to aftermarket or custom parts. The keyset your after is basically exclusive anyway, so I'm not sure what the problem is.

2 month is pretty much nothing in the geekhack community. Most gbs norm take 6 months or well upto a year.

Alright, thank you for reminding me of the group buy then. I guess I'll join in and wait it out, it will be worth it in 2 months time.

A certain amount of patience is required when buying keyboard bits.

Some keycap sets are available of the shelf, but only if someone has had the forethought to get a bunch of sets manufactured ahead of time and keep them in stock (kinda expensive to do).

Otherwise just join a GB, and exercise patience as unexpected delays do happen as rel life intrudes on what, for most, is a hobby :)
