Title: hhkb pro2 type-s space bar click problem
Post by: ghastone on Sat, 20 February 2016, 21:43:57
Hey Guys,

I have an HHKB pro2 type-s and have noticed that when pressing the center of my space bar, there is a loud clicky noise rather than a soft thock. I thought it was just me being a little crazy and picky about my keyboard, but after using a friends non type-s I noticed his space bar sounds the same no matter where it is pressed. I currently use a red pbt space bar but I have heard this same click noise with both the original and the pbt space bar. Has anyone else run into this and does anyone have a solution.

Thanks,
Ghastone

Also, if you are curious, this is my keyboard, I modded it with a black case. (http://imgur.com/OPMyHsE)

your pic doesn't work, you want the link directly to the jpg

and yeah, that's the hhkb spacebar.
if you want to silence it more, you will need to mod it.
this thread right here has some suggestions for you: https://deskthority.net/help-f53/silencing-rings-for-topre-rf-or-hhkb-t10051-390.html
it might be worth it to go through the thread and just scan for anything related to the spacebar.

i know geekhack has a few posts here and there about it as well but it's rather scattered around threads and pages

I just noticed this exact phenomenon on my week and a half old Type-S.  Right in the middle of the space bar, if I hit it a certain way, it makes a very loud rattle/click noise.

Its typical due to the stab wire hitting plastic tab.
Certainly it has some loose between them
The only way to fix it its lubing stabs with Kritox 205
Now the sound/noise is almost gone

+1 Exactly like ajx described...you'll just have to take everything apart, which is a positive thing, too :)

yes hhkb spacebar stabilizer is a fiasco. On my type S it rattled everywhere. I opened it up, disassembled the stabilizer and put high viscosity lubricant everywhere where there would be surface contact. half put it back together out of the case and watched the stabilizer move up and down and studied where contact points would be and lubed everywhere.
Put back together and the stupid thing still rattled, not quite as bad though. However on my non type S there was no spacebar rattle. Only slightly when pressed on the left side which was no issue as I press with right thumb.

I thought I heard a clicking noise when I first got my HHKB.

I switched to a PBT spacebar though and I haven't really noticed it anymore. I'll have to double check when I get home.

Check Kritox 205, mine was already lubed but it still makes irritating noise
I applied Kritox 205 and now its almost gone
