Title: Filco from elitekeyboards
Post by: Sparkee on Fri, 04 December 2009, 08:46:07
Ok , I order the filco from elitekeyboards with the brown cherrys.
Can't say I am happy with the 15 dollars for the cheap shipping from fedex :(
At that price it should be a three day. Hang usps priority would be faster for cheaper.

Where do you live?  I don't remember shipping for mine being that much.

I bought the Filco 87 key w/ brown cherry's and the filco wrist rest from EliteKeyboards.

After spending $150 on one of the best keyboards you'll probably ever own, who cares about $15 shipping? It now costs $10 just for a USPS Priority mailer box that might not actually get to its destination.

Make sure you don't get UPS for shipping. They always stomp on my packages.

obviously by now everyone here is aware that shipping adds up with how far and how heavy it is, but us residents have it easy, it's an expensive hobby when ordering from another country, even neighbor like Canada.

my hhkb pro2 is costing 29$ to ship, dunno about border fees and taxes yet...

the customizer cost me just almost much in shipping, taxes and border fees(i'm an importer now?) than the actual keyboard, 29 shipping, 10 at the border and 10 tax, that's 59$ participation fee, for an item worth 69$.

a model M costs me 35-40$ to ship, including packaging fees, this one didn't cost border fees or taxes, but still, almost same price as the keyboard went out on shipping and handling...

for the customizer and model M, so far 50% of my money goes on the keyboard, and the other 50% on shipping and handling

when i order computer stuff from canada, let's say tigerdirect.ca or ncix.ca, it costs me only shipping and taxes, 15$ is the max I pay(and like newegg does in the states, there is always some sort of bargain shipping), and it gets delivered in 2-3 days, at work, i know someone who ordered a digita camera at 10:30am, delivered to him at 10:30am the next day, for 10$ shipping, and that's from Vancouver to Montreal, crossing the entire country from coast to coast, very often paying for the cheapest ground shipping and the thing ends up in a plane delivered the next day.

getting something shipped from the states totally sucks.

buying stuff within my country is a much smoother ride, on thanksgiving they had a 5.99 shipping special, I ordered a computer case, power supply and bunch of ther stuff, i think it weigh at close to 20 pounds, or 2 times 20 pounds, two big boxes ground shipping across  the country from coast to coast for 5.99 cdn... I look at the shipping costs you guys pay for your keyboards in the us and thats what it looks like, while all my costs to order mechanical keyboards are all overhead, handling, shipping, more participation fees than actually something to show for what i paid for. That being said, no disrespect to sellers who ship internationally, if I was a seller I probably wouldn't, considering what prices fedex, usps and ups charge for international shipping these days. But still, i'm greatfull they do ship internationally, being able to trade with people halfway around the globle to get the rare item I want, priceless, for everything else, there's Mastercard...

Damn countries, customs, borders and such. And they call this a "global economy." My ass. We should start a revolution. I mean, whatever happened to NAFTA? There should be free trade with Canada.

$15 doesn't sound too bad.  I paid $18 for a Filco 87key and I live "in" the US.  Thank god elitekeyboards isn't like many other online stores/ebay who only ship via UPS/FedEx, that would cost me a good $30 at least.  Example, it costs $16 to ship an SD card from Newegg via UPS ground (cheapest option available).

am i the only one that finds fedex/ups consistently cheaper AND faster than USPS for pretty much everything?

i shipped two 17" TIRES for less than i have paid USPS for normal packages

not to mention superior service
fedex/UPS want your business
USPS doesnt really need to care

Living in Canada, USPS is the only way to go, otherwise a thorough lube job is required and I don't swing that way - not that there is anything wrong with it.

if shipping internationally, USPS is the best.  but i find that a well-insured 20lb huge box costs like $8 at fedex and $15 at USPS.  just me, i guess.

I was frankly surprised fedex cost that much. Although they have gone up.

USPS has been great with my packages and UPS has been the worst as far as price and rough handling.
