I've purchased a Filco Majestouch Tactile Touch keyboard a few months ago and the LEDs are really painfully bright.
Is there any way to replace them or dim them?
I really like the keyboard except for that...
-
put some tape over them? doh.
-
remap caps lock, and eliminate it? :)
-
Search for Sharpie mod.

There's no hope. It's busted. Maybe someone here will be willing to give you $5 for it.

Remember 5 1/4 inch floppies? When you bought a 10-pack of those, it came with a sheet of black stickers for putting over the write-enable notch. Those are perfect for putting over bright keyboard LEDs. They are not completely opaque, so you can still see the LED, but it won't disturb you anymore.
I put some on my Model M LEDs 20 years ago, and they're still there, even though the Model M is in storage since 2008 (replaced with a Realforce 86U), because the noise used to wake the baby up.

if you write-protect your keyboard, you're never gonna get any work done
/joking :)

dammit, too slow. Well done, msiegel.
-
I store my pen in that spot, so I don't even really notice the LEDs.
-
it seems like everyone hates how bright they are
maybe they are just trying to win over the gaymen crowd, hoping their 3 superbright LEDs will make up for many smaller ones, and better match blue LED fans inside plexiglass computer cases

Correction fluid does a good job of forming a diffusing layer, but you have to be really careful if you want to make it tidy.
I found the Sharpie trick wasn't enough/had hard time sticking to the LED.

Anybody tried this (http://shopcustomcreations.com/VHT-Nite-Shades-Tint-SprayBlack-Out-Tail-Light/prod-530.html)?

I think precision (and, perhaps, overkill) might be an issue. Spraying something as small as an LED would be a challenge in the least. That, and the investment for something a Sharpie could do might be a bit much.
-
and if you are willing to take it apart just to spray it, you mind as well come up with something better

LED condoms. Available in drugstores catering to "small people".

Sliding into third safely.
Actually, photo labs use them to keep from getting skin oils on negatives, pictures, etc.

How are they better than regular gloves for that?
-
They're not. Other than convenience (and maybe price), I'm not sure why you would use them over regular gloves.

You've never worn latex gloves for more than 5 minutes, then. They get pretty sweaty inside.
Another use for thimblettes is counting money. Sadly my need for them is limited.

True. Counting money is good example. Your overall hand feeling is compromised with a glove. The cots only give you the advantage of the "glove" where you need it vs. the whole hand where you don't.

They're used extensively in watchmaking. Perhaps the bright sparkly lights are there to appeal to the growing number of so-called "herbivore men" in Japan, although the annoying trend for super bright blue lights seems to have been perpetuated by the crude gimmicky tastes of certain gamers who have their computers lit up like Christmas trees. It's funny and just a little sad to see otherwise elegant hardware turned into the electronic equivalent of Ru-Paul, for the sake of being "cool".
-
You saying Ru-Paul isn't cool?
-
Wow. "Ru-Paul" is someone I hadn't heard about in years. That was a good thing. Thanks, Ulysses... for nothing.

Yeah but it sure cuts down on code defects. :suspicious:
-
Ah, yes. The ol' "you can't f*ck it up if you don't do it" defense.

It's called "controlled development" LOL
