What I've tried and doesn't work:
Fabreeze
Candles
Spot cleaning
Hiring a steamer and pet deodorizing service
Replacing the padding underneath the carpet
Yell at it for a while

Replaced padding under the carpet, but not the carpet? Wtf?
-
Cat urine requires an enzyme cleaner to properly neutralize the ammonia, etc.. I've used Nature's Miracle with good results. YMMV as it will depend on the level of saturation however.

The apartment would charge for a full replacement so I replaced the padding around the edges of my room (where the smell is)
Mind you - this is not my scent. The place I moved into has a very strong odor in my room from the previous tenant but because it's a shared lease the manager refuse to do anything about it.

You need human asparagus piss to counter the cat piss.
Step one: eat about 5 kg of asparagus.
Step two: drink about 4 litres of water.
Step three: do not piss for about two days, do not drink any more water.
Step three.two: spend lots and lots of time in direct sunlight.
Step four: apply your piss to the problem area.
Step five: euphoria.

Cat urine requires an enzyme
Only enzymes remove these odors.

In Mother Russia you destroy cat. Use its blood to clean carpet. Smell gone. Cool carpet.

Huh? You can't get the carpet washed?

I think they got the rug-doctor rental machine at the home-depot, and they got a specific mix for animal odors i believe.. or maybe the regular one has the mix already.. not sure..

My friend says you need
natures miracle cat urine destroyer (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003I5QRJ2/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B003I5QRJ2&linkCode=as2&tag=420usa-20&linkId=J323MZYXABYKK2UT)
You need the one specifically for cats, b/c the smell is so bad, you have to destroy it, that's why they named it like that.
