Title: Southern California Mechanical Keyboard Spring Meetup
Post by: manofinterests on Mon, 29 February 2016, 12:07:32
Hello everybody!

I’d like to invite everyone to the next Southern California Mechanical Keyboard Meetup! It’s been a few months since the last one at Originative, but it’s time for me to officially announce the next meetup!

This meetup will be held at Datamancer’s workshop! Datamancer is known for their unique keyboards and keycaps. Thank you to Datamancer for offering to host this SoCal meetup and let us check out their workshop and ask questions about their projects.

Here are the relevant details

Date: April 2nd 2016 (04/02/2016)
Time: 11am-5pm
Location: Datamancer LLC
4460 Brooks St Unit D
Montclair CA, 91763

Food: Pizza & Cheetos
Drinks: BYOB (Please drink responsibly)
Raffles: Yes

Datamancer has told me they will be providing Pizza to attendees as well as possibly providing some beverages.

All attendees will receive a CA Meetup Keycap! As Pictured Here: http://imgur.com/HK5raM4

There will be raffles! Lots of things will be raffled!

Special thanks to /u/LeandreN as he is donating a carbon fiber 60% plate to be raffled off at this meetup! Check out his current [IC] on GH for his R4 Groupbuy as well as his GB/Preorders for WKL/HHKB plates.

Special thanks to /u/Waikane of Originative for some giveaway goodies as well! I’ve talked extensively with him and together we will be raffling off a certain GMK keyset! I’ll also have some PBT goodies from him to raffle/give away as well :)

Another shout out to /u/jchan94 who will be raffling off custom hand made cables! 3 lucky winners will receive the correct contact information to get their cables made to their specifications. He will have samples for you all to check out. Visit his website at keyclack.com

/u/Skullydazed has entered the list of sponsors! He will be bringing a Clueboard to be raffled off at the meetup! This clueboard will feature an aluminum top and bottom plates with an acrylic mid piece. Zealios will be included for your feelios. He's also throwing in stabilizers and LEDs to not only complete your keyboard, but to really make it pop. His Clueboard is a great design on a well loved layout. Check his keyboard out at his website! Clueboard.co

I will also be raffling some of my items like I did at my NorCal meetup! Artisans, Keysets, and more!

Feel free to post questions and comments! I'll be using this thread as well as the reddit thread as a way to gauge attendance numbers, so please let me know if you plan on attending.

If you would like to sponsor this event in any way, feel free to shoot me a message! :)

Thank you for reading everyone. I hope if you're in the area you will be able to make it out to this event!

Hmmmmm....
This looks great, and I have a month to schedule a weekend in SoCal.

I'll monitor this thread. If I go by myself I'll fly, but if a group goes I'll consider driving.

No, I'm not going just for the CA MEETUP keycap. Well, maybe.

I'm in Mesa. What kind of stores? Why won't you cross the state line again?

I had architectural and automotive glass stores and a nationwide insurance claims service I administered from AZ.

I won't cross the state line because I think there's a warrant for my arrest and at least a couple girls that would like to kill me.

Any updates on Time?

Also, if you need more workshops, I wouldn't mind bringing my soldering gear and pulling an old board apart and letting people put it back together.  Maybe a prize for the best soldering job?

I just updated the time! It's running from 11am-5pm :)

If you would like to do a workshop, I'd definitely love that. I could also give a prize for the best soldering job, but I don't know how we'd judge that.

Sounds good.  I will bring my gear and an old Siig Suntouch with white alps so that people can practice removing the switches and re-soldering them back in.

Just bumping this thread to encourage any GHers in the Los Angeles area to come to this event. I made it to the last SoCal MK event and enjoyed meeting a lot of nice people and seeing a lot of keyboards. This is a great chance to try out a lot of different boards, layouts,  and switches. The last event drew about 50 people, with only a handful of GHers attending. We can do better. We must do better!

Hope to see you there.

I really enjoyed getting together with fellow keyboard enthusiasts today and was impressed by the turnout. I am guessing around 150 people and even more boards on display.

It was good seeing old friends and making new ones. I especially enjoyed talking to Nubbinator and meeting evangs, who probably traveled the farthest to be there. Another thanks to manofinterests for organizing it and reaching out to the GH community, and a big thank you to Datamancer for hosting the event.

The only regret is that more GHers didn't take advantage of this opportunity.

Maybe I'll see you at the next one.

Kurplop was supposed to tell everyone that I'm an even bigger ******* in person, but he failed.

It was fun talking to those of you I met.  Sorry if I came off rude at any point as it was unintentional.  A combination of worrying about my caps and boards with people I don't know and wandering around with drinks over them and, toward the end of the day, an aching back and feet makes it hard to focus.

It was interesting seeing everyone's aesthetics and different and unusual things they had...except that one person who brought a bunch of K3s.  Kurplop's work is even more gorgeous in person and appleonema seemed like a cool guy even though I only briefly talked with him.  Unfortunately, I didn't see any of his "art".
