The battery meter screen thing doesn't even display what's eating the battery like it used to in older androids, for example, google play services.

Root phone, run custom ROM
My Galaxy S5 has terrible battery life. To the point I need to get rid of the phone. I have to rotate through multiple batteries or have it constantly plugged in just to make it through the day.

At least you should be able to run a custom rom. On my S5 it is basically impossible, or at least it was the last time I checked. My S4 was so easy...le sigh
I hope to get a new phone soon. Either the S7 or a Nexus. Probably the S7...

Since I'm getting older, I'm more and more inclined to get another ifo, cuz i just don't care about apps, i just want something that's smooth and doesn't crash.. hahahahaha..
I'm just not so sure on the nexus, because of huawei... espionage is very big in China. and huawei takes the helm..
You guys think they just make fones.. but they are major database, compute players, hospitals, gov buildings, university science, almost everything electronics.

I can't bring myself to go back to an iPhone. I love my Android devices. My only regret is that I gave up my unlimited data plan when I switched from an iPhone 3 to whatever I got at the time. This 2GB data plan is killing me. I may just end up switching providers.

They did, back in the day. Then we got bought out by another company and we had a choice, they will pay for our phones, but they own it and can completely control the device with mobile management software. Or we can pay for our phones and have control over the device. I opted to pay. I don't need anyone messing with my phone. Period.

No, they don't pay for anything at all for me. I pay everything. I will not allow the man to tell me where I can and can't browse on my own damn phone. SCREW THAT. If I let them pay for it, that would be another story all together.
To quote the Lawrence Arms:
"When I say **** the man it's what I believe, no matter who that man happens to be".

Dump it if you are out of contract. I went to a monthly unlimited plan with T-Mobile for me and the Wifey and picked up a pair of LG G4s and have been super happy. It s a little pricey since we are still paying for the phones, but once they are done, it will be good. Switched from Sprint and will never go back to them. Coverage for Sprint in SoCal sucks.
As to battery life, the S5 seemed to be hit and miss, my Wifes ate through battery and mine would last all day even with a bunch of playing games. I tried getting her a better battery, but that only helped a little. Her phone was pretty much teathered to a charger. Thee G4 isnt great on battery, but still good for a day of general use with a bunch of Pandora streaming.

I'm WAY out of contract. I haven't actually had a contract phone in like 4 years. I just buy them and then move the SIM card. AT&T will no longer do contract phones anyway, which is complete garbage. I am not going to pay a monthly fee for a phone. NEVER going to happen. What I'll probably do is wait a bit and then pick up an S7 second hand. That is how I got my S5. Anytime I don't have to get AT&T involved it is a victory.
But, I do want a better data plan, so I'm looking into T-Mobile. I'm just not sure about the signal in my area.,

FWIW I left AT&T and went to T-Mobile, no contract, the coverage has been fine and you get more data for less pesos. They have some "Jump" program thing if you always want the latest phone, you pay like $15 / month and you'll get the newest phone everytime it comes out.

Snag one of those cheap $10 phones from Walmart and get a month of service to give it a go in your area. Worst case scenario, you quit after a month and return the phone to Walmart.
