Title: Help building my dream KB
Post by: Auxo on Mon, 07 March 2016, 16:01:36
Hey guys,

I wanted to come to you guys for some help in building my dream KB, I originally planned out all the stuff I wanted, but ran into a fitment issue with a PCB and the case I have, so I canceled my order for the PCB and decided I need a concrete plan before ordering stuff.

My dream layout is pretty much this:
[attach=1]
[attach=2]

Originally, I ordered a PCB from winkeyless.kr, for a B.face 60%. I had to refund my order from wkr, upon finding out that there were fitment problems previously where the case would short the pcb and cause it to function improperly without extensive case modification.

My question to you guys, who have experience with a TEX Aluminum 60% case, is, what PCB should I go for?

Here is a complete list of goals I am trying to achieve:

1. 60% layout
2. Cherry MX Red
3. WKL bottom row: 1.5u - 1u - 1.5u - 7u - 1.5u - 1u - 1.5u
4. Off-center Caps lock [Stepped Caps Lock]
5. Split right-shift + 1u [Fn key]
6. Pink in-switch LEDs
7. Cherry stabilizers (not too sure if I am keen on the difference between PCB and plate mounted stabs, feeling-wise anyway)

I think that covers just about all that I want in a keyboard, if I have left something out, please let me know!!

Since WKL was thrown out, I am now considering GON's NerD PCB, and have also heard that Sprit was a good product (albeit, I have read there are some issues going on with him and his group buy)

Thank you for reading!

I think Sprit would be the best to go with given the build you want.

FaceW
- Readily available from mechanicalkeyboards.com (vs gon which will have some lead time)
- supports your layout
- supports switch LEDs
- cheap

You can achieve that with any 60% PCB.
I owned many PCBs and so far my favourite is Winkeyless.kr, but I haven't tried GON's yet.

I suggest you join LeandreN's GB (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=79315.0;topicseen) and get yourself a NerD 60% (GON's) and a plate.

Would you happen to know what parts I would need in conjunction with the PCB? diodes & resistors? controller? I can't quite tell from the description as I am not too well versed in this subject matter lol. Thank you for your input!!

I originally joined for the WKL plate, but upon thinking more about it, I really dont want a straight blank spot on the kb that sinks all the way down to the plate. I have decided to either use 1u blockers like the picture above or program those 2 keys to something I actually might use (print screen & Delete)

I might join the GB for the PCB and buy a plate elsewhere :)
