Title: Hello from the UK!
Post by: Mechboards on Thu, 10 March 2016, 07:50:51
Hello everyone!

[attachimg=1]

We are Mechboards UK. We focus on Keyboard Reviews and Giveaways for the UK! Our site is down at the moment but we are on Twitter - https://twitter.com/MechBoardsUK

We just wanted to say hello as we should be posting here soon with giveaways, offers, group buys, etc..  :D

We have posted previously - https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=73049.0 (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=73049.0) -  But we haven't really been here since so I thought a reintroduction was applicable :)

Hi csmertx! We have agreements with some suppliers so we can offer products at a lower cost to the end user if bought in bulk. Like any other GB, really.

Happy to give you some advice on running a UK store, now I no longer work for QWER

Hey Tim! Thanks for the offer, might have to take you up on some advice :) I miss QWER :(

Welcome again to Geekhack!

Would these competitions be open to only UK residents, or from anywhere?

Hey rowdy.

Probably UK/EU based. Depending on shipping we could open it to other areas of the world, but GB's/Competitions are mostly US based so we're trying to spread the love a bit over here :)

That's fair enough.

Being UK based, I would guess that there would be an ISO-ish theme to these competitions anyway ;)

The link goes to a Thailand Casino website. That page specifically shows the rules of how to play the Baccarat card game. Literally the most random forum post I have seen so far  :-\

Yea, I've seen those sort of spam posts before (Somehow spam is attached to the account, but the account holder can respond naturally)

Anyway, if I need to learn about Baccarat now I know where to look!

Yeah, I figured it was some sort of game, but an unusual and completely unrelated link to post in a thread by a new member.

Hi I see you're doing a 60% kit and I have a few queries.

I'm genuinely unsure about having the LEDs, I've survived this long without them... but they can look so cool.

Hi I see you're doing a 60% kit and I have a few queries.
  • Any idea when the UK ISO plate will be available?
  • The kit mentions LEDs, is that in switch LEDs?
  • This is perhaps a kinda dumb question but when I've been looking at switch LEDs they seem to specify a particular ohm resistor that also needs to be soldered on, depending on the colour. Will the kit come with appropriate resistors or is there some other electrical solution to that?
  • Will SIP sockets be offered with it also?
  • Would you offer the kit with the alu case you've got? Or should the order be caseless and then I add the alu case after?
  • Bonus - if you have ideas on where to get interesting backlit UK ISO keycaps I'd be all ears!

I'm genuinely unsure about having the LEDs, I've survived this long without them... but they can look so cool.

Ta

ISO Plate - Hopefully in the next 1-2 weeks.
LED's - Yes, these are soldered into place through the switch.
All you need to do is solder the LED into place, the board has all the correct circuitry.
SIP - If you want them they are available :)
Case - The cases are expensive but what I can do is setup a kit without case, and you can buy the case plus kit (without plastic case)
Keycaps - I suggest checking the marketplace here or Reddit /r/mechanicalkeyboards. I'll take a look around for generic keycaps too though.

I have white LED's, they are very non-intrusive. Definitely help in low light!

Thanks

David

Thanks very much for the reply - I don't know why I need SIPs, I guess if I wanted to change the colours? but don't think I will.

I think you're right, I might pass on the alu case for now so think everything's sorted. I'll order the kit before the end of the month (next payday) if the ISO plate is in.

Cheers  :thumb:
