Title: Vintage MX Black spring compared to Zealio 67 gr spring - which one is heavier
Post by: hKing on Thu, 10 March 2016, 14:35:55
Hello there,

I want to tune some of my vintage blacks with the 67gr springs from the Zealio switches.

As there is no real comparison of stock Cherry springs and korean springs, can you tell me if the 67 gr springs are heavier than vintage black ones?

Thanks!

Black. The Zealio 78g is closer to Black.

How do you get to this conclusion?

I am just curious if there is some kind of "conversion formula"....

Zeal himself said the bottom-out force of Vintage Blacks is around 80g, and since the Zealios are measured by bottom-out force then the 78g would be closest.

Found it!

So are 78g switches still lighter than Vintage Blacks? The only MX boards I have are with Vintage Blacks and 65g Zealios. I was going to get 67g this time as 65g is a wee bit light for me, but now I'm not sure if 67g will make much difference.

Edit:
Just read Zeal's weight charts on Reddit. Looks like 78g is heavier than Blacks, so I'll still to ordering 67g.  :thumb:

hmm? MX Blacks bottom out at ~80g. 78g Zealios are along the vintage black range. :)

Just one number isn't enough.

I have experience only with sprit's springs, in which case 68g is supposed to be about the same as vintage MX Black and 78g is a lighter variant of stock MX Clear spring. The former is easier to bottom out, but the latter requires about as much or perhaps a tad bit less force at actuation. In other words, if stock modern MX Black is 80g at full compression, it's about the same at the 78g sprit's spring, but not actuation (78g is at least 5g lighter in that point).
