Title: New Member from Rhode Island
Post by: zappy on Mon, 14 March 2016, 07:39:58
New Member here. My fiancee had bought me a Black Widow Chroma a few months back, now she hates the noise. I'm looking into a new (quiet) keyboard for both home and work which led me here. Any recommendations would be helpful.

I'm a Model M junkie. If you can find one, the IBM Ambra Model Ms are still clicky keyboards, but far less noisy than the standard Model M. I have one and it is much quieter. You can still hear the clicks, but not nearly as much. If you can find one on the secondhand market, its something to consider.

Oh man, no more keyboard presents? :-[

I'd check out Alps, Matias or Topre if you need a quite switch. I guess you've already tried out switch dampener O-rings?

MX Browns have a very similar feels to the switches in the blackwidow, except without the clicky sound. I would recommend a cm storm quickfire rapid, because it's fairly cheap and compact. I know a lot of people (including myself) who swear by the board. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the long, wallet draining journey ahead of you   ;D

Welcome to Geekhack!

Do you like lighter switches?  Or think you might prefer heavier switches?

If heavier switches, you can't go wrong with MX clears - perhaps a CODE keyboard ...

Or something with Topre switches, an HHKB or a RealForce.  Or even a Novatouch.
