Hey everyone, it'll probably be awhile before I get another keyboard (loving the Type-S way too much), but I've recently taken an interest in linear switches, and I've mentioned this before but I love how the vintage lubed blacks sound.
What are your preferences for an Mx-type linear switch (can be anything out there) and why? I've heard Gateron blacks are closer to vintage Mx ones out of the box, which I really like the sound of. But I think I want a switch that is butter-smooth and would like help on that one. Thanks y'all.

Vintage Black.
Any objection is a lie.

I just switched to vintage blacks, i absolutely love them. Smooth and heavy.
I havent tried gateron blacks, but really it comes down to preference, features and convinence. If you want clear casing or slightly lighter switches, go gateron. Otherwise, cherry.

Gateron black new batch
Meaning the ones with the clear top? I concur.

Always found Gaterons to be smoother than Cherry MX from the types i have tried personally. That said to be fair to an above poster i have never tried vintage MX Blacks before.

Yep and black bottom not the milky bottom

Gaterons are a lot smoother in general.
Matias Quiet Linear and other linear ALPS are probably even better, but harder to find and not MX compatible.

Lubed vintage mx black and lubed gateron black....but vintage ones are just a tad bit more refined.
Definitely the best linear mx switches available out there...gaterons commercially, vintage blacks harvested from the older boards.

That's not an MX type switch :p .

Lubed vintage Blacks. Harder plastic than Gateron, nicer contacts, just as smooth.

Another vote for MX vintage blacks, mine are Krytox lubed with 68g springs. They feel a lot better than my stock MX reds.
I also have Gateron yellows and they are super smooth.
The vintage blacks feel tighter and a little more refined for some reason.

"Best" is generally given to Nixdorf's.
Cherry lovers will then say Worn Vintage Blacks, followed (very reluctantly) by Gaterons.
Personally I'd just toss em all and go for SKCL Greens ;)
