Title: Jelly POM keycaps vs other POM keycaps?
Post by: loomin on Wed, 16 March 2016, 23:28:43
So I've seen lots of people praise Jelly POM keycaps, but I haven't seen many people using pom keycaps from other manufacturers. A quick Google search brings up this:

Are POM keycaps really that special? It seems like people spend a lot more money on thick ABS and PBT keycaps compared to these. Is it worth it to spend more time looking for a Jelly POM set compared to other POM sets for any reason other than aesthetics?
Sorry for all the questions, I'm new to all this and just a little confused.  :blank:

I've always assumed jelly just meant to the color style.

They're called jelly just because they're slightly translucent and look kind of like gelatin, that's about it. POM as a material is considerably smoother and much more slippery than ABS or PBT, that's the main feature aside from the looks.

One difference between jelly pom and most non jelly is that jelly pom are blanks, while other poms are usually (but not always) laser infilled.  You'ok be able to feel the infill on lasered pom, so it'll feel different than blank jelly pom.

However, there are sets of blank non jelly poms; see the set that Zeal PC sells.  They should feel exactly the same as blank jelly pom.
