Has anyone tried Hori Edge 201 Keyboard?
-
Don't tell anybody, but I'm digging those flat caps. I seriously don't get what people see in profiled ones.
-
I'm intrigued about the low travel switches.
Too bad it's fullsize only.
-
They look like normal MX type switches with flat keycaps, so the travel should be the same
Edit: looks like they are saying the switches are in fact proprietary. I wonder if they just modified the MX design to actuate at 1.5mm instead of 2mm?

I believe they bottom out early. Probably the stem inside is completely different.

That would be my guess as well. All they'd need to do is lower the position of the linear ramp for higher actuation and extend the bottom of the stem sor faster bottom out.

It's a reach thing. If you type in normal position then your fingers will reach better with certain keys thanks to the sculpt profile. Of course if you're playing games with keyboard on your legs like a quasi pad then flat would be much better.
The pictures shown doesn't do the keyboard justice, you won't see the stems from sideways and the keycaps are about as tall if not maybe slightly shorter than that of the Cherry 3850 (see below)

They're using some cherry linear clone claiming to have 3mm bottom out and 1.5mm acutating distance.

My desk's top is around my bellybutton, so I guess you're kinda right.
-
lol to be honest, I really want to get one. Despite me having so many keyboard already.
I have Cherry MX Board 2.0 which has the exact same keycaps. Which is made by Devlin and to be honest I really like this profile. It's like best of both worlds, mechanical + scissor switch low profile.
Hori's own switch seems to be linear and low travel that activates at 1.5 mm. My guess is that the full travel is probably 3 mm.
Other boards with similar keycaps would be Cherry MX Board 3.0 and Cherry MX Board 6.0.
Though now I'm not sure where they would sell this in Canada. :(

Kaihua ("Kailh") makes a linear Cherry MX-clone with 3mm key travel.
-
I wonder if the switch in these is the same as the so-called "AGILE switch" (made by Kailh) in Tesoro's upcoming "Gram" model...

The keys don't look like they are evenly spaced. EG there is a large space between O and P. Is the keyboard actually like that, or is is a poor render. It is really bothering me for some reason.

It appears that that row and column is where the lens is centered. So looking at it from above all the keys probably have that same separation, you just cannot see it the further from there that it goes outwardly front that point.
The other issue is that, it is also apparently the spot where one of their screws or whatever they are using to hold it all together is at, so you can also see the color contrast difference with it.

That Tesoro Gram looks nice. I'll probably get one provided that the price isn't retarded.
-
That tesoro gram does look nice. Looks like something I'd give a shot if it comes in a tactical variant. I prefer lower profile keyboards on my home desk.

So who makes the Hori switches?
