Title: Help me find a new mouse
Post by: Hofy on Thu, 10 December 2009, 18:31:03: My logitech G3 is dying and I need a new mouse.
The new Logitechs scroll wheel sucks ass so they are out. (Too smooth with the hard plastic/chrome on the edges.) I find I scroll on the edge of the wheel not on top.

I have always liked the shape and feel of the G3 / MX310 from Logitech.

I was thinking of Razer or Steelseries but their quality issues scare me off.
Below are what I want and do not want in a mouse.

Requirements:
Optical or Laser.
3 button with tilt wheel or back/forward buttons that are out of the way. I do NOT want all the buttons of the 518/G5 etc.
Scroll wheel must have detents.
No Microsoft. (Worst mice I have ever used)
Corded, I hate cordless always needing a charge or change batteries right in the middle of something.

Razer have some issues alright, but Steelseries? Mine is built as well as they come...

I think the Ikari Laser fits pretty much all your requirements. They are a great mouse.

ch_123, I have read several reports of 'jitters' with the steelseries when doing precision work. At $85+ it best be perfect. Also it is on the large size compared to what I am looking for.

Just so everyone knows, I use my mouse for gaming, general web surfing and photshop work.

I don't think running out in the middle of something is possible with
Logitech's mx1100.

- It takes plain AA cells. No need to worry about the limited lifespan
of a proprietary li-po cell that isn't available as a spare part.

- You can fill it with one or two cells, allowing you to trade weight
for runtime[1].

- Loaded with a single eneloop[2], mine needs more than three months for
the red battery indicator to start pulsing occasionally. It still
works for more than a week in this state, giving you plenty of time to
ready a spare rechargable.

I have been categorically excluding cordless mice as well, but the
mx1100 actually seems to be a decent design.

[1] The OEM version does only take a single cell.

[2] At the moment I use decrepit NiMH cells with it which are unusable
in high current-drain devices, but still work for more than a month
in the MX1100.

Wow! Who knew I would need a new mouse for 2010 back in 1993!

I see several things wrong with the MX1100.

First and for most is the suck ass scroll wheel. Please see my first post.

Second, that thing is HUGE. No where near the profile of the G3.

I have a Logitech V450 for my laptop that I love except for the small size and the fact I need to replace batteries every couple of weeks, even though they are suppose to last for upto a year. So no corless mice.

Alt + Left Arrow = Page back and Alt + Right Arrow = Page Forward
I have been doing more research on Razer meese and there are several fixes to make them work properly. Remember my title is Voids Warranties.

I just enjoy the novelty of using a black IBM mouse with my M13 :)

Normally I stick to a generic Logitech optical mouse. Two buttons and a scroll wheel are all I need.

I'm very fond of my Razer Diamondback with seven buttons. I've had it for around four years... no problems yet. The wheel doesn't tilt though.

I was just giving you advice. Your loss at the end of the day if you're not interested in anything than what you're familiar with.

I also have a Razer Diamondback 3G coming. I think I may have more mice than keyboards now since I found my stash of mice. Logitech Serial ball mouse, My other Logitech G3 almost new, an old MX310 and the recently purchased RX1500 (2 of these).

And you know, the funny thing is that I never really had a huge problem using that mouse. I wouldn't choose it over any other mouse, though.

But the gel on the mouse (I linked to) is nice. It does seem a little too sensitive for it's size and shape, though.

I ended up buying 2 Razer Meeses.
A red Diamondback G3 and a Salmosa.
The Diamondback came straight from Razer and I got the Salmosa off ebay for $20

yep got one of those also. It is in the box on a shelf for back up. (Gave a away both of the RX1500)

I am using both Razers and the almost new Logitech G3. Cant really stand anything less than 1800 dpi now. Thinking about getting a DeathAdder 3500 dpi and see if it is too much or not.
