I want a new mouse (its been 3 keyboards since my last mouse).
Its not that I broke one recently, I just feel like a new toy :D.
(Good thing I don't have a wife, or she'd point out I just used 2/3's of last months pay to buy skiing equipment :P).
My Criteria:
- Must be very sensitive and accurate
- Has at least 3 buttons (this can be the scroll wheel if it can act like a button as well)
- Should have some method of vertical scrolling (e.g. scroll wheel), doesn't have to have horizontal scrolling
- Not small (I have a VX Nano, which is awesome, but I only need one small mouse), I think my Logitech G7 is a tad small for my hands.
- Must last at least 4 years (longer the better)
- Should be ambidextrous, unless using the right-handed mouse requires a condom (I'm right-handed but usually use a mouse with my left hand)
- USB is preferable but not a requirement
Current Rodent Infestation:
- Logitech G7
- Logitech VX Nano
- Logitech MX Air (cause its cool and gimmicky)
- Microsoft Intellimouse (1.1A,2)
As per the topic title I'm leaning towards a trackball.
My price range is flexible, as long as its awesomeness factor is high enough.
So far I think the Kensington Expert and CH DT225 look like possibilities.
Probably one important thing to mention, I live in Japan, but will be moving back to Canada in July, so if its coming from the US I'll probably just wait.
On the other hand, I can just head over to Akihabara (its about 2 hours by train). So that may open up some other options for me.
It'll also give me an excuse to go find some Topres to try out while I'm there.
There are lots of used goods stores in Akihabara, so out of production rodents are a possibility as well.

Geekhack has become GeekMatch.com. I think we need to install an online dating module to vBulletin.

Well, I'd personally just get over to Akihabara and look for trackball weirdness there. Even if nothing shows up you can always get a Logicool trackball. Identical to the US counterparts (http://japanese.engadget.com/2008/12/18/logicool-trackman/) but I dunno, I like the geekiness of "Logicool".
Dammit, you convinced me. If my friend in Tokyo will let me stay at his place on Saturday, then I'll scour Akihabara this weekend.
If you guys don't mind the crappiness of my cellphone camera (HTC Magic), I'll upload my finds (I'll be looking for keyboards and mice in general). I'm lazy so I'll set up some auto-upload app.
Also, if someone sees something they really want and can let me know before 12-1 pm Tokyo time on Sunday and I can pick it up for them (well as long as I don't want it). All I ask for is the cost of the item and the shipping. And if you feel nice a little extra to help offset the 13 000 Yen in train tickets (~$140 US).
I'll probably know if the trip is a go within the next few hours. I don't know the next time I'll have a free weekend to go to Akihabara (with the ski season starting).

Friend agreed, so I'm off to Tokyo tomorrow :D
I'll setup a thread on my finds in a bit.

The CST Lasertrac is another possibility -

Ooo, looks nice.

Yeah, expensive though, especially when you consider the shipping to Europe. (And the European distributors are so expensive that they're the same price as getting one from the US and paying customs) I think a friend of mine is going to work in the states in the summer. I might use him as my mail forwarding service :P
