I've been on the fence about replacing my antique Weller WLC100 soldering station with a Hakko FX-888D.
I found that my local Frys has them in stock, for $99, which in itself is unremarkable, but when I accidentally added one to my frys.com shopping cart, the price dropped to $79!!! By the time you add shipping, this isn't an attractive offer, but if you have a store nearby and can do an in-store pick up, it's not such a bad deal.
BTW - There was no explanation of a sale/promotion, or if it is an Internet only special, therefore I don't know how long this price may be honoured. So, your mileage may vary.

About a month they had it at $79 as well after the $20 promotion, but they advertised it so it was also like that in store. Strange that it didn't show up initially for you but glad you're still able to get that price!

My Weller is clearly well past its prime. Besides, it was never exactly brilliant, even when it was new. Despite this, I was still having sticker shock with the Hakko. This promotion, however, made the Hakko an easy decision to make.
I'm not complaining, but I don't understand the point of having a promotion, if you don't ... er ... promote it. Perhaps the promotion is over, but they just haven't sorted their website? Who knows.
The Hakko is a great bit of kit, so either way, I'm just hoping that someone else is able to benefit from this special.
EDIT: The webpage has been updated today, to reflect the 20% discount.
