PS4. I almost literally never play it because of my pc. The only time I've played it is when arkham knight was getting almost negative fps on pc...
a Macbook at the prices they command short of a major price drop i can simply do much better with a Windows/Linux based machine for far less.
Tefal steam iron. They suck. Drip water, leak, too much or little steam. But unfortunately I do not know a less crappy brand.

But I heard those steam pump thingies that look like small vacuum cleaners can do the creases faster than an iron..
It's like, you just hang up ur shirt, yea ? then you just spray it with the steam.. and it's straight..
I guess you could do this for the majority of the shirt, and then just have to iron the collar area..

I'm sure I'll have others, but there's only one that pops into my head now.
Back when the 6800GT was the best card on the market, SLI was still very new and exotic. I bought an SLI motherboard and a pair of 6600GTs since theoretically a pair of them using SLI properly would run better than a single 6800GT. Unfortunately, I wasn't aware of the SLI profile stuff and how finicky it was. It really hit home when FEAR came out and I saw the 6800GT's benchmarks and compared them to my own. I lived with that boneheaded mistake until the 8800GT was released, which was 3-4 years, I think.

It worked fine on the newest games.. but not on the older ones..
I bought an MSI Ghost Pro laptop, which was a pain from day one. The trackpad was horrible, it had literally 25 minutes of battery life, and the gaming performance wasn't great. It was also expensive and felt quite flimsy. The model I had was also reputed to have some of the BIOS / UEFI backdoors from China in it, and I took a pretty substantial loss in selling it. I built a new desktop after, which I quite like. That definitely ranks pretty highly.
I'm not sure this counts, but the item I had the biggest remorse over was definitely an Acura ILX sport package. While the car was reasonable enough to drive, the seats were unbelievably uncomfortable on long drives and driving the stupid thing just made me unhappy. I was thrilled to unload it and buy another Jeep.

I never heard good things about MSI laptops OR their supposedly great motherboards. I'm wondering what their reputation was built on.

Iv'e actually had excellent luck with MSI motherboards(Both my current desktops run MSI motherboards as well without issue) and HORRID luck with Asus which is supposedly superior. That said most laptops are made by a handful of OEM's and simply re branded such as Compal,Clevo etc etc Are MSI laptops even made by MSI? Or just one of several OEM rebrands like the extreme majority of laptops really are?

Yeah, that's probably true. For MSI, I'm talking about around 2005-2010, never touched the brand after that out of disappointment. Went the ASUS route for motherboards, but they also failed on me occasionally, especially DOAs. Tried gigabyte, but those were really hit or mis for me unfortunately.
I actually was under the impression most motherboards were actually produced by ASUS (not Foxconn) but to different specs and levels of quality but I could have that completely wrong. Just heard it once.

A smartphone.
I have a tablet for mobile entertainment, and the battery life of a normal phone is much more useful in both my work and private matters. And it doesn't help that it was some crappy no-name brand that would lag doing just about anything. Thankfully I already sold it.
I bought a Mac Mini that doesn't get the use it deserves. Probably gonna sell it.
Samsung phones. I don't know why I kept buying the latest one out only to be disappointed two days later.you referring to the s7/e?

Somehow much easier to do stuff on and the fact that it's always buttery smooth when you play games on it. I own a Nexus 6P also but even that beast can't play game as smooth as an iOS device.

iOS devices definitely are smoother overall, but I prefer the customization and freedom of stock Android devices, even if it means all those third-party apps make the experience a little jarring and laggy at times.
People complaining about cellphones are doing it wrong..
STOP USING IT, problem solved..

More than 1080p on a laptop monitor. Poor graphics support leads to screen tearing, and in general you have the higher power consumption - a big FU at the end of it all, given that it was supposed to be the "trade-off" for the benefit of a higher res screen.
Id like to note that I got a WQHD screen, as I was fairly sure 4k was super dumb - but a friend convinced me 4k was amazing (And I totally interrogated him about his choice), and the bloody company really sold it... fk

I got an 8800 GTX back in the day. The first and the last time I'll shell out for a top of the line GPU. Considering this was just when I started college, I think I should have spent the money wiser and gotten beer for it.

When MP3 players where first getting started I bought the Dell DJ instead of the IPod. I honestly thought the DJ looked better than the IPod and it was cheaper at the time. Man was this a mistake. The settings would reset each time you shut the DJ down. So, when you restarted it, album songs would be listed alphabetically instead of how they were organized by the artist. IT WAS HORRENDOUS! Also, the backlighting was glitchy, buttons were intermittent, and the bugger was heavy AF.

Bitfenix Prodigy as a LAN case. It's just too ****ing wide. It's a cube not a LAN case. Poor design, and I wish I planned more.
Otherwise I always spend too much on tech because I know it's important. There isn't a tech purchase that I have regretted more than "oh this feature is lacking but still better than the competition".

My first mechanical keyboard. Got me into this rabbit hole of a hobby. If I would have just been happy with the Kinesis Freestyle, I could actually focus on useful life activities.
Compaq Presario 2200Have you disabled and enabled the device yet..
I was a little kid and I was psyched that my parents bought a new PC for me. I was literally jumping around the house for like hours. Admiring every text on the screen and every dialog and window. It came with Encarta and MS Office 95. I soon got VB 5.0. Times were good.
But soon, that PC started falling into pieces. CDRom messed up. Fans heating up. Speakers making weird noises. IRQ conflicts oh yes.. but not sure whether those conflicts were the computer itself or win95's "great" interrupt handling.
And then I found out everything in that box was fake. Cyrix CPU. No proper Hardware Acceleration. Most games were still dos by then. But soon I could not enjoy HW accelerated DX games.

Win95 also had this thing of shutting down to the command prompt sometimes I believe when .drv files failed. Yeah, fun times indeed.

Plug and pray you mean ;) Yeah... those were the times. I alwas had IRQ conflicts and had to manually try to fix it in the BIOS. Sometimes I even had to physically swap cards in the ISA / PCI slots because Windows 95 just wouldn't work properly.
And then that feeling when you installed win95 and finally setup worked and everything seemed to work after driver installation... That was my high back then :P
All my trackballs
I bought 4 different balls, hoping to find one I liked, but I cant get used to any of them enough to not feel extremely clumsy.
CST 1550, Kidstrack, Logitech trackman marble non scroll thumb ball, and trackman marble mouse with the ball on top.
85 bucks that is literally never used.

Switching to a trackball boosted my accuracy quite a bit. I'm hoping CST trackballs don't suffer the same ball rolling issues as logitech trackballs do. After a good cleaning the ball sticks. I don't want to add grease to my trackball. Plus if you drop the damn balls they'll flatspot :( Billiard balls for the wins

I bought a Nintendo 3DS. A year following my purchase I had maybe played two hours of one game, Pokemon Y. Fortunately I had purchased it used and managed to sell it without sustaining much of a loss. I truly wanted to be interested in handhelds again but the 3DS couldn't rekindle the flame that my Gameboy Color had once given me.

Whether or not you like handhelds is subjective. Disinterest or lack of certain features doesn't in itself make something stupid. That's unfortunate that you lost your PSP. Get a couple of wired controllers and you can play Mario 64 on the PC.
At the time I always thought I'd regret spending $400 building a custom keyboard, but since building this board over 4 years ago it has pretty much been the only board I've used and it's actually saved me money in the long run from purchasing many other boards in search of perfect finger satisfaction. People laugh or stare (outside of GH of course) when I say I built my board for $400, but to me it has been a more than worthy purchase.

Sounds like a great board! And I agree, spending upwards of $400 on a keyboard sounds crazy at the time. But if you spread that $400 over the course of 5+ years with hundreds (even thousands) of hours of use each year, the cost seems much more reasonable.
Lubed and stickered panda + ergo clear TKL with an internally stabilized aluminum case, hid, and some other stuff. There's pics on here somewhere, it's got a red case. It would actually be much cheaper (by about $100) to build these days, the mech board community has come a really long way in 4 years.
Oh there is definitely an emulator mini-itx pc in the works :)) I'll come home from work and relax with some Nintendo 64 games and that giant awkward n64 controller

No.. handhelds are stupid.. only little kids like um'..I used to be a PCMR scrub like you for two or three weeks, but then I saw the hypocrisy within the group towards Linux and left. But then again a wise person said "Linux is not PCMR because we're not limited to PC's" so maybe I wasn't PCMR in the first place.
can't see the screen the buttons are uncomfortable, the game runs at low fps, no antialiasing..

Oddly on the go i typically grab my pok3r and iPad mini for mobile use rather than my laptop.

wha....... what laptop do you have..
I have a few sitting around though i have not bothered to update in awhile since honestly nothing a laptop can do is something my tablet can't that i require. (With the tablet having the benefit of built in LTE) and since i always prefer using a mechanical keyboard it's more space conscious and less to carry doing so with a tablet than carrying a laptop and a mech board.
As of moment between my wife and i we have
Thinkpad R61i
Latitude D620
Latitude D430
And my wife has a Zenbook 13.3 (The cheaper blackish one with the intel Core M) that her job has provided her
None of these machines have been updated for a long long time (outside the zenbook since it's for work and we didn't buy it)
For one simple reason.
There is nothing i need to do on a laptop i can't do on my iPad mini with LTE using less space and being able to use my pok3r on the go at the same time. My mobile computing usage basically consists of the following.
E-mail (Both work and personal)
General surfing
Ordering for work/looking at potential new products
Watching the occasional movie or TV show from my Remote media server or Netflix etc
None of this requires the use of a full laptop nor the bulk of one (even the 13.3 zenbook seems very bulky compared to an iPad mini and pok3r honestly) and the Battery life is great at that, plus since my wife uses an iPhone i can respond to her texts without even needing to take out my phone.
I have thought several times about buying a newer laptop for myself but simply put for my needs and usage i see little use to the investment and the one time we had bought slightly newer machines in 2009-2010 when my wife bought a MBP and i bought a newer ASUS (The exact model name is eluding me atm) we ended up selling them both off because nether of us really ever used them at all and they sat in their laptop bags collecting dust. In fact i still have and use the STM bag we bought simply for carrying my Pok3r and iPad mini and misc other things now.
And when i'm at home i'd obviously rather use my desktop.
So anytime i ever consider looking at a newer laptop now i always stop and think to myself what can it do that *i* will actually use it for my tablet can not and i can't think of any single thing and just buy a newer tablet again instead.
Sheesh, no wonder you don't want to use your laptops..

You need to experience a newer 2.5ghz and above CPU + SSD on mobile.. It's way way way more responsive..
Ipads are quite sluggish, especially with adblocker turned on, and you can't block scripts with no script..

To be fair if you only spent 200$ on a tablet one could say the same about the tablet as that's fairly low end tablet at that price range a 200$ tablet is basically for watching movies. And honestly it's nothing to do with the specs of the laptop my Desktop has an i5,16GB of DDR3 multiple SSD's and a GTX 970(So it;'s not that i haven't experienced newer specs i have i just find them wasted and useless in mobile form)...but away from home i don't DO anything that requires that sort of power at all it's simply a massive waste of money.$200 on an Android tablet should get you something pretty decent.

As for the notebook, this kind of falls in with what we discussed in the netbook love thread, some of us just prefer small laptops, but the netbooks were just too darn slow. It just so happens that there was a bunch of 11.5in laptops made with Core I series processors (3rd gen seems the most common). Most lack the battery life of a tablet, but are half the weight of normal laptops (just over 2 pounds), and can run Windows like a champ, especially if you swap in an ssd and more ram (most can do 16gigs DDR3), something many of us have laying around at this point. The best part though is parts are cheap and they are easy to repair compared to a tablet.
I've seen the Lenovo models go for just over $100 (beware the Atom and AMD models), which is not only far below what a used Ultrabook goes for, it's less than it usually costs to have a tablet's screen repaired. Which is another reason I went this route, the idea of a laptop I can replace entirely for less (much less just parts) than repairing my other systems was quite attractive, especially when it could run anything I wanted short of games. They are a niche market so you won't find Ebay flooded with Core I models, but bang for the buck and size, they are fantastic little machines. If you do consider one, check the netbook thread, I listed various models, prices and pros/cons.
True, with LTE the price does go up (by stupid amounts) and that's understandable about tablets if you prefer them. I just hate tablets, they're fine for walking while doing something, they're great for wireless network troubleshooting and such, but otherwise they are just terrible in my opinion. To be fair if you only spent 200$ on a tablet one could say the same about the tablet as that's fairly low end tablet at that price range a 200$ tablet is basically for watching movies. I'd have to disagree honestly with the 200$ remark, 200$ isn't quite budget entry level but it's really not even mid tier either. Given that Android is less efficient and needs higher specs than iOS to achieve the same results at 200$ you either settle for a tablet with decent specs and poor build quality or lower specs and decent build quality...and LTE? Forget about it.
As far as repairing i have no need since i always get Applecare+ and can just drop the thing off (Not that i have ever needed to) and i upgrade every 2 years anyway. Given Sprints 0% APR payment plan and i can pay as little as 5$ a month for data for a small amount or add more should i so choose as i need it....it's a no brainer for me. I DO totally understand your love of smaller laptops though as even 13.3 ultrabooks feel bulky as hell to me and too much to lug around. BUt for myself personally the iPad is a better fit and there is nothing a laptop can do i need the iPad can not, all the while having it insured with damage protection and being able to use a 60% mech board with a smaller form factor than ever a netbook provides.

But i keep my pok3r solely for use with my iPad, that's my one negative is the fact my HHKB's don't work with the iPad....There are ways, I believe...

Why wouldn't the HHKB work with the iPad if you have the USB camera adapter to hook it up? Something special going on?

The USB hub which can't be disabled by dip switch on the HHKB draws too much power and thus the HHKB Pro 2 does not work while the Pok3r (non backlit) does. The iPads are very hit and miss on which boards do and do not work with them due to power usage.
Razer Deathadder 2013 (x2)
Razer Deathadder Chroma
Seriously, I don't even know why I bothered after the first one. Back in the day (DA 3.5g and before) I loved the DA. I hate the finish on the 2013 and newer models. It's really slippery and the rubber side grips aren't big enough to make up for the lack of grip. Also, the right click went bad on all three of them within a few months.

Logitech makes the best mass-produced mouses (yes, "mouses") these days. Been using three for the past 15 years with no issues, and they're still kicking.

Logitech QC is great and should you have an issue their support is second to none perhaps only tied with Corsair....my one issue however is their ergonomics need A LOT of tooling. Among their current generation of mice i only find the G602 comfortable and it's far too heavy. The g303/g502 etc just feel extremely uncomfortable IMO for extended use. That said my G602 has seen a ton of travel...a ton of usage and still works like it was new...i just wish they were more comfortable and in the G602's case lighter.

Still, although #g502masterrace, I went to the shop today and that mouse felt really crappy. Trust-crappy. May be the model but... I really think they are overhyped. Go to amazon.com and read reviews, there are many issues with logitech mice. YMMV of course.
There will always be lemons, but when I get three **** DA's in a row that's a pretty bad sign, or I'm just very unlucky. Seems like Razer has always had bad QC from what I've read on other forums, but people also like to hate on Razer more than anyone else because of their marketing hype and styling. I use a Diamondback as my daily but I've only had it for a couple weeks now, so we'll see how long it lasts.
I would agree that Logitech makes the most reliable mouses (and maybe Corsair, like you mentioned). Of course, no technology is perfect. Unfortunately, neither of them make a mouse that I can stand the shape of (except the G602, but that only comes in wireless so that's a no-go).
do wrist wrest counts?
Because I recently bought a wrist rest for my TKL board, but after using it, only to find out that I dont put my wrist on the wrests when I type... my hands are hovering over the board...
OuO all these time i saw those typing vids all of them also rests their wrists on the rests when typing...

I rest my wrists while gaming. I don't game very often but I guess that would be a benefit to some that game often--if they rest their wrists while gaming
