Title: Help me determine this keyboard switch sound
Post by: soundtester on Mon, 28 March 2016, 11:50:40
So I know this guy is using a Filco Majestouch 2 with a number-pad either mx cherry brown or mx cherry black. I need to know which one

Give me your thoughts. Thanks!

Sounds like bottoming out on blacks to me. But why are you even watching this person?

Because he is my idol and i want his keyboard and the keyboard switch sounds harmonic.

Hang on, is this the Shkreli that testified before the Congress of the USA just a few weeks ago?

Sounds linear to me. I'd wager MX Red or MX Black.

I seem to remember him owning a razer keyboard so maybe razer orange switches. But why in the world is this man your idol? lmao....

oops didnt read your first sentence. It would be pretty hard to tell between the two but probably mx blacks.

The one he uses at home is a filco mx cherry black. He used the razor at work though. He's my idol because he's just the most intelligent mother f**ker I've ever come across on the internet.

I'm pretty sure it's black since I spent 6 hours listening the difference between mx cherry black vs brown vs cherry. You are on point that it's linear. I'm 100% certain it's black.

Comparing  it to my browns it does sound linear.  More than that I cannot say.  A lot of folks seem to say black so I cannot argue with the more seasoned people.  I can tell you that he's bottoming out hard, so it could also be reds as he would be fatigued I think constantly bottoming out with blacks.

(Emphasis mine)

This is going to get interesting...

Pro-tip: there's plenty of other "intelligent mother f**ker"s you can look up to that aren't, err... smug, arrogant, evil brats. (Try Warren Buffet if you want someone in finance.)

Pro-tip #2: pretty sure you'll find a lot of equally intelligent people that are blissfully typing away on rubber domes. Keyboard doesn't make the man.

Last but not least, is a recording that's not been purpose made going to be accurate enough to tell the difference anyway? It's easy to tell the clicky MX switches apart from the linears or the tactiles, but beyond that...

I ordered blacks. I wonder if the fatigue is going to be the main issue here? I don't think it's reds either because reds bottoms out on mushy sound.

I just like he way how he uses it and the way how the keyboard sounds. I'm motivated to do excel work watching his stream so I must exact his keyboard setup.

No.  If you are a deliberate typist, nothing short of a heavy typewriter will fatigue you.

I hope what you say is true because my mx black is coming in two days!

Typing on MX clears tired me out after just a few minutes and I was not bottoming out, but I'm used to very light switches.
