Title: Help with Keycap<->Switch sizes
Post by: kaevix on Thu, 31 March 2016, 02:33:57
Hi, new member here. I've been wanting to purchase some Zealios and on the sales page it says R2 Purple Zealio Switches, does this mean that they will only fit for the R2 row on my keyboard and only fit R2 keycaps? Sorry, I'm kinda clueless to keyboards.

It was meant to be round 2 zealios

Welcome to Geekhack!

There is a glossary (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=50532.0), but it doesn't include R2.

Still, it might help with other abbreviations around here ;)

Not that long ago I wouldn't have had the slightest idea what "CODE TKL with clears and JTK WoB" meant.

All the switches themselves are the same shape/size/mount in regard to the rows. The most common switch types that people sell and make caps for are: Cherry-MX, Topre, and Alps (this is in order of most to least common). Its the key cap profiles that are different for each row.

Don't feel dumb, it is kinda silly to abbreviate something like "round 2" into a commonly used keycap specific "row 2". One might think that with a typing related enthusiast group it is also silly to not want to type out the whole word.

Hope that helps a noob. I wish i had that succinctly put on my first read through.

It's like a rite of passage.  Learning the new and mysterious jargon and acronyms of a new community.  Took me forever to figure out what on earth switch stickers were...
