Title: White keyboard
Post by: Erzegovaz on Thu, 31 March 2016, 16:13:04
Hi guys :)
I'm Just curious, why People dont buy White keyboard?  I can See some White keyboard from 4-5 oem, but I've never  seen one around.
White keyboard became incredibly dirty in less time?  Is it hard to clean the plastic case or the pbt keycaps?

I am also curious about this.  I almost bought the Poker in white.   It  make me think too much of  Apple  though, to I decided against it.

I would say I see a 50/50 mix of white and black HHKB's. Depending on the type of plastic used, white boards will yellow overtime, which could keep some people from getting them. But I think slight yellowing just makes a keyboard look more classic.

I haven't noticed any particular cleaning problems with any of my white or beige keyboards. I think they do show dirt a bit more easily than the black ones, but nothing that's too hard to deal with.

I expect it's mainly a fashion thing.

My latest Realforces boards are white, one of them a 104U and the other an 87U.

My pok3r is white and I love it. It stands out more, but gamers in general want that "stealthy" look, which might be why in general alot of mech keyboards are black?

Man, back in the early '00s almost all keyboards were off-white or beige and I so wanted a black keyboard because I thought it looked so much more cool ...

How things change.

Is this a question? You see quite a lot of white pokers (myself included) and beige realforces. Also white hhkbs are pretty repentant around here. And the whitefox (obvious). I think you're just not looking hard enough.

Right, there seems to be more color options in the small keyboard realm (notice the popularity of colored aftermarket cases for 60%ers), including white. However, there are very few white keyboards in full 104 ANSI or 105 ISO format. And mostly this is due to fashion. Black keyboards are the current trend.

Well that's true, but I think it's just due to manufacturing. I would wager to say that a good portion of this community uses/prefers/shows off TKL or smaller boards. I feel like we don't see a lot of white full boards just because most people here don't full size and if they do, they don't come in white as often.

I think white keyboards can become yellow colored if it is exposured to the sun for a long periode of time. I had one cheap not mechanical keyboard that was white and after some time (years) it become a bit yellow colored. So you could say white is more dirty than lets say black.

My first mechanical keyboard was white! Poker 2 with mx clears in the white variety. I agree with others though, the appeal of a black or darker colored keyboard is the "stealth" or "cool" factor. However, I'm starting to think I like the white HHKB with blank keycaps over the black keycaps.

I think one day I`ll try to buy a leopold fc750 white...I think it`s soooo beatiful, but I`m afraid about yellowing. Sooo I really dont know ahah

Yes I saw that here 80% people use TLK or 60% and those keyboards are fantastic also white...but I think a keyboard like HHKB must be black, like a real Hacker ahahh :p

Wyfe wanted a white hhkb for ease of reading legends as she adjusted to the layout. Turned out it was also extra pretty as a blank canvas for artisans.

I ended up with a white one, too, because I have white desks, white walls, chairs, etc. Has more of a modern look, I guess? Plus having a thick black bezel on my monitor, all black mouse and mousepad, etc, it is nice not having just a big black box of a keyboard.

Yeah, I'm a mutant around here because I prefer full ANSI boards for my desktop PC setups.

And to my mind, there are keycap sets that don't look right to me on a black board, and so for instance I need a white board to host my Grante and Space Cadet caps. My white Pok3r has Granite on it right now, and my white Varmilo VA108 will carry my Space Cadet caps when they arrive.

I'm glad at least someone out there makes a full size white board in which LEDs are an option (that I can decline), but they are rare. You'd think that in this world of highly customized stuff, white full size boards wouldn't be so hard to find, but they are like freakin' unicorns.

White white, or beige (off-white)?

I have a KeyCool which is whiter than white, and included white white PBT keycaps too.

I also have a few beige keyboards, mostly Model M.

The rest are grey or black.

Most keyboards available are black, at least the vat majority are.

One guy at work is half looking for a mechanical keyboard, and says he wants a black one as white/beige is too old-fashioned looking for his taste.  Perhaps that is a factor for other people too.

I prefer off-white over white-white, but one can't be too picky these days.

Having said that, my PuLSE set will stay on a black board forever. And there are some colorways I am going to experiment with once my Honeywell sets arrive which will go on black boards. But most of the keycap sets I have, or plan to have, will only look right on (off-)white boards.

"Old fashioned" is just another term for "vintage", used by people who have no appreciation for it.

You guys should look at keyboard covers.  They keep the dust and crap out of the keyboards when not in use; and trust me it accumulates fast.  I have one by "CDS" Computer Dust Solutions and it covers a full size keyboard or a 60% and the mouse.  I imagine if you have a white keyboard this is more important for aesthetics, but for any board this is important.  And every few days I wipe the surfaces with a weak Windex and a microfiber cloth.

I use a tea towel as a dust cover, simple and effective.

I actually prefer white boards more as for my Pok3r because it hides the dust easier.

Very white keyboards, such as the white POK3R look almost blue-ish. I much prefer a slighty off white, anywhere from the HHKB slight grey colour to the OG Cherry beige tones.

On that note, has anyone ever died a plastic case? I'm looking to turn my very white plastic 60% case into more of an off white:

I like off-white more than pure white too, but nobody makes full sized off-white boards except Cherry, and they cost more than they are worth, IMO.

As for dust covers, I use the plastic covers that come with my Filco Majestouch-2 boards.
