Title: Overpriced Filco Majestouch TKL on eBay?
Post by: DreaMagine on Thu, 31 March 2016, 16:22:45
Can someone explain to me why this guy thinks he can sell his used Filco Majestouch with an aluminium case for $700 USD? I noticed this listing today and I had a good laugh at it:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/172151655837

Even better is the extremely vague and nonsensical item description.

I'm starting to think that Filcos might be REALLY popular in Asia.
There seems to be a lot of custom Filcos in the pictures I see for the group meetings in Vietnam.

Never quite understood all the credit FILCO gets by some people iv'e always thought they were insanely over rated for the price and honestly i see no difference what so ever between them and a Ganss 87 at half the cost.

Historically - Filcos were one of the only easy options to procure a mechanical keyboard in NA in what now feels like many years ago.

Currently - I can get Filcos for relatively cheap here in Canada.

They are a simple, no frills reliable workhorse board, with plenty of options available for modding should you choose to do so. You can change the controllers for one from Bathroom Ephpihanies should you wish to modify the layout, or if you wish to make aesthetic changes TeX's aluminium cases are quite well regarded. If you wanted to build a cheap custom board  - say the Phantom, a Filco case is the perfect candidate to house it in.

In certain parts of Asia, I would imagine they are also relatively easy and cheap to obtain, making them an obvious candidate for any of the things I mention above.

In terms of the OP's link to the individual and their asking price - nothing really justifies the price necessarily, but the same could be said of virtually any keyboard within this hobby/pursuit, so does it really matter? If someone finds value, it will be bought. Unlikely that it will happen though.
