It's just an 8Tb external drive that runs off USB.
The innovation here is that it runs off USB 3.1 by trading amps for volts. 5volts high amps is converted to 12volts low amps allowing for a low power 8Tb desktop drive to be used in places a laptop drive would normally be used.
