Title: Considering A Mech Keyboard, don't own one yet, advice on caps please.
Post by: bjfmonkey on Fri, 01 April 2016, 19:28:52
Ok, so i'm on a tight budget and will buy this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00CITN98G/?tag=pcp0f-21 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00CITN98G/?tag=pcp0f-21). I've seen in many places that it has low profile keycaps, if this is true can they be replaced with just keycaps in general? like will they fit? This is probably a REALLY stuid question but i've never had a mechanical keyboard before.

They can be replaced by any keycaps with MX stems, which are the most common type. You will have a lot of keycap sets to choose from.

Welcome to Geekhack!

My guess would be (to the above interpretation) that the space bar has non-standard stem spacing, and probably the keyboard has off-centre-stem caps lock (most modern ANSI winkey layouts have centre-stem caps lock).

First of all, thank you. Second of all even though the picutre on that is ANSI its actually an ISO (uk) one.

i own this keyboard (uk layout) and its fine with the low profile caps its great and not to claky so perfect to use in a office for work which is where i use mine i would leave the stock low proifle caps on it as it will look stupid with taller caps on

id say its a good board but not for gaming (can be used for gamin with out issue) but its more of a productive keyboard for work!

you can get coolermaster cm storm quickfire keybaord on amazon for about teh same price btw ( more of a gaming keyboard if that what your after but ye for a office go with the cherry its a great board)

ISO/ANSI - most have centre stem caps lock (except Korean customs).
