Title: SCART AV help please!
Post by: noisyturtle on Fri, 01 April 2016, 23:07:01
So I got this lovely SuperGrafx recently and went to hook it up today, and much to my dismay the only cable it came with looks like some sort of SCART cable. Knowing next to nothing about SCART I went on Amazon to look at a simple SCART switch, but all of them seem to only have female AV inputs and this weird plug has female audio jacks and no video jack which is confusing the hell outta me. What exactly do I need to plug this into the composite outlets on my tv?

What TV inputs do you have? That'll help determine what cable adapters you'd need. Couldn't you also get male-to-male audio jacks? Or just get an entirely new cable that'll connect your system.
SCART is GOAT for retro consoles , but it seems you can't take advantage of it.  :(

Well it's a PC Engine/TG16/SG whatever specific cable on the end that plugs into the actual system, so any old cable won't work. All I want is to plug it into regular composite plugs.

I know what SCART is used for, I just never had to deal with it before and don't want to order the wrong SCART switch.

I just want to plug it into my Trinitron, why does it have to be so difficult. Old consoles are supposed to be EASIER to deal with  :'(  :'(

Oh, I meant a different PCE cable. I suppose you'd have to get a composite one for now, but looks like you'll have to hunt one on the 'Bay.

It does have video jack, or actually pins, built-in audio pins and RCA sockets for extra stereo input.

Just plug in the SCART cable to both ends. You can leave the RCA sockets unplugged.
The SCART cable has 21 pins (one is ground) which are used for different video protocols, all of them analogue.
It will trasmit signal in either component, S-Video or RGB, being the latter the best possible, so opt for it if you're given the choice.

Yeah, I finally figured it out. All I actually required were these two items, just didn't think:

I also didn't realize the scart pinout wasn't standard, whoever modded it did a really good job. Got some info it, doujindance something or other (person who modded it, or name of the mod?) that acts as an RGB amp built in. TIL
