Title: What were all those later Model Ms for?
Post by: ch_123 on Sun, 13 December 2009, 10:42:46
I was reading earlier about IBM's PCs after the PS/2. Basically there were two lines -

The PC300/700 series - They replaced the PS/2 for business users.

The Aptiva - They replaced the PS/1 and PS Value Point for home users. (I actually had one of these many a year ago, they were pretty uninspiring)

Both of these entered production in 1994. Now, from what I can ascertain from stock pictures and the like, they used regular rubber dome boards, even the ones that came out first.

That raises the question - what were all those later Model Ms for? Some of them definitely were for retail sales - the 60G', the 42H1292, the M13s. But that still leaves a load of other stuff lying around. Special order items? Replacements for customers? Does anyone know?
