I want two, each with real mechanical keyboards.

If it is manufactured, it will come with a Philco keyboard, standard.

What's a Philco keyboard?

Doesn't really tell me much, otherwise I wouldn't have asked.

Don't worry. If you stare at the article long enough (http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/14/philco-pc-concept-makes-the-50s-seem-less-lame-video/), you will be enlightened.

Engadget stated that it was rendered in the article (indirectly):

I think that is not what a Vintage PC should look like.  They should look more like the computers in Microsoft Windows' computer lab.

Speaking of vintage computers, I accquired one of these a month or two ago -

20" CRT (bigger than the one pictured) was included, but I decided to leave it in the skip and opt for a series of hacks to get it working with a standard monitor. Aside from cracking the root password on it using John, I have done very little with it. I'm eagerly awaiting Sixty's SGI AT-101 to go with it.

It's the rendered part that pisses me off. Obvious ploy to bring in more business, probably will NEVER be built like 99% of these concepts.

Slow news day at Engadget.

You like the how the edges of the LCD were rounded?  Good luck with that, Philco.

You should have taken that 20" CRT. It's probably a really good monitor.

Just like most Apple and mobile phone advertising. You can't get away from the small-print disclaimers "simulated display", "some steps have been shortened or omitted", yada yada yada.

You can't trust the bastards. Trying to sell you a damn lifestyle when all you want is a phone that works.

I think by and large displays are simulated in print advertising the same way food is simulated in TV advertising. The real deal has angle distortions or just flat out doesn't look vibrant or appetizing enough for marketing purposes.

well you could say the same about any product.
then again, most ads probably dont show you the real thing.
i dont see how it is not false advertisement.  they are advertising something that is not what the product is.  put a * at the end of whatever you say, and it can be a lie.  i was reading a box for a duster the other day, a * note had ** within it, having me flip over the box AGAIN to see what the 'catch' was on the 'catch'.
always thought it would be nice if someone made a typical game trailer, but released a game that had nothing to do with it and was awful.  people would complain, then realize all game trailers are like this, things would fix themselves.

and the simulated screen thing is one of the funnier ones.  ads for televisions always try to make it look like WOW THAT PICTURE IS AMAZING but the ad is coming through YOUR tv.  still works though.

just so much stupid crap, selling something that you cannot buy.

ive already done my "concept" rant in another thread, but the short version is these things do nothing, and it is amazing we dont just leave "concept cars" and whatnot to bored high school kids with cracked versions of maya.

Hey, what is that? What can you do with it? (Not the CRT, that cool blue box under it I mean)

It's a UNIX workstation, with a 64-bit MIPS processor. See the pic in the computer setup pics thread.

Awesome! What are you going to run on it? Did you get a copy of IRIX with it?
