A good project for someone who wants to figure out what’s wrong and fix this up:

I suspect it’s just a few dodgy switches or maybe a few dodgy traces on the PCB, and it should probably be possible to repair without too much trouble. In the worst case, you could always pull the PCB out and hand wire to a teensy.
