its just one more social media sort of thing i have to check. muddy waters for me. but to each their own. some like IRC better than forums. so what ever.

no salt here. i like forums for historical research and such too. just easier to search.

I don't see people making threads and complaining about off-topic being the preferred method of your 'I hate everything that doesn't speak to my interests or involve me and myself listen to me now' circle-jerk

I'm not involved with any drama, so that helps.

I like having side conversations without starting threads some times.

Post by: byker on Sat, 09 April 2016, 19:23:24: If you are legitmately looking for an answer, I think the answer is pretty simple. People like having real-time conversations, which is why skype is pretty popular among geekhackers as well.

The main benefits of slack for me are:
- that you don't have to pm people individually for their skype, because a lot of people are on it already.
- You can have private conversations as well as group conversations
- The website/application are much better then skype's, so I prefer having private convos with people over slack then through skype
