Interesting this Compaq has different nubbies on the home row than mine do. Mine are more like nipples than nubs. They're quite nice. But so is the condition of this board.
Ebay Compaq MX-11800 (http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Compaq-Trackball-Keyboard-G80-11802-MX-11800-Cherry_W0QQitemZ320461755467QQ#ht_5445wt_1282)
Nubs like my Compaqs:

Mine has bar shaped nubs. I was hoping for nipples, but these work just fine.

My hypothesis is that we are looking at the difference between G80-11801
and G80-11802.
G80-11801: Center nubs on J/K, grey ps/2 plugs, heavy keycaps (1.05g)
G80-11802: Bars on J/K, color-coded ps/2 plugs, light keycaps (0.75g)
I suppose the latter model replaced the earlier by 1997, when the color
coding was standardized[1]. The colored plugs are a good way to discern
the two in auctions when the picture is otherwise too blurry to see nub
details.

You may be right, bsvP585hUO2Y6.
I have a 11802. Serial No. is G 008384 L22. That puts date of manufacture not quite half way through 1999. I have bar shaped nubs and gray plugs. I'm afraid I haven't weighed my keys yet though.

I have 5. 2 have coloured connectors, they are type no. 11802, but the FCC ID still says 11801.
All 5 have bar type nubs. Very prominent, how I like them.
I could have sworn they had dot-type nubs. I'll go crazy now until I find which of my boards has those.
Aha, bingo! My very last 11801 (sixth!), the one I rearranged to Colemak has the dots. Shame they are now in the wrong place, lol. IMO they feel better. Easier to sense, and strangely enjoyable to touch. I'm clearly getting too involved with my keyboards.

I've got the 11802 w/bar nubs, color plugs (maybe), and probably the lighter caps. An example from the num row was 0.99g

Either way, I really like the keyboard. It's fantastic, and I really grew to enjoy the cluster of f-keys. they should do that more often.

The dot-style nubs on the 11800 are the bomb. I wish all 'boards had them. There is no question that you are on the home row with those.

I wonder what dicates the round nub vs bar on the MX-11800. It doesn't appear to be age - I have one with the non-colour-coded connectors (like the top one) but it has bars.
Personally, I'm a fan of the deep-scooped keys that Cherry use.
